Anyone else interested in the new VW Polo GTI?

Your examples suck. If you only drive to the shops once per week then an X5 with the biggest engine possible is a very good choice, economy doesnt matter when you drive that little, so why not do your low mileage in a battleship rather than a silly little shoe?

Because I'm an idiot and I can't drive a big car. My rich husband will probably buy it for me because I rolled our X5 7 consecutive times :(

I'm just trying to explain it the best I can, I can't really understand either, but obviously there's enough demand for them to keep pushing them out so SOMEONE must be buying them.

Why do you need 500BHP to go to the shops? Why not buy an X5 or whatever with the smallest engine if you're only going to pootle around town in it?

Why not? If you are not going to drive far and not burn much fuel why not get a huge engine? It doesn't matter.

On the contrary, why get a 500bhp car if you are going to do 20-30k a year?

Well surely it does matter because the car costs a shed load more money to buy in the first place?!

Because if you were doing that sort of mileage you'd likely travel on roads where mega power can actually be used.

Alex, why did you buy that Ferrari if you plan to do big mileage? Seems pointless to me, a powerful car which isnt used much :/

I dont see a point in having a small car having that amount of power. Its a waste. Something bigger would put it to better use IMO.

You are making completely idiotic comments, so thought i would join in with a jibe against that stupid sig of yours :)
My sig is stupid because it has a picture of a car I like in it? Right. Great.

And why are my comments stupid? All I said was that if all you're going to do is drive around town, why do you need the largest engined version of whatever car you choose? You'll pay thousands more and get no benefit in return because you couldn't possibly use all the extra power. If you're doing bigger mileage and/or driving on faster roads then obviously the faster car makes more sense.

Why will you pay thousands more?

Did you know that on the used market a 4.4 litre X5 is cheaper than a 3 litre diesel one?

They should put all the effort into the Golf instead and make that faster.

See what you've just done in one simple sweeping statement is call all small hot hatches pointless, which couldn't be further from the truth.

If they spent even more time and money on the Golf it would cost even more to buy, it already costs too much.
