55 Plate, 2.2 diesel, chipped to 204bhp, half leather seats, Parrot system, 18" alloys, full service history,100,000 miles, 25k a year is mainly motorway miles, taxed for a year, MOT for a year, cruise control, immaculate condition.

Is it worth 6,500 ?

First, lets get the typical OcUK responses out of the way.

It's a Mondeo!
It's not a proper Jag!
It sucks!
The DMF will explode and kill you! And your pet dog!

On a more serious note, £6500 is about trade book on that car so yes, it is very much worth it.

I would, however, be very nervous about a 2.2 chipped to 204bhp. It is the 2.2 TDCi out of the Mondeo. 204bhp is IMHO too much for these.

A lad at work is selling his and has had it from a year old.

It is immaculate, well maintained and looked after and I have to say I am very tempted.

The main thing putting me off is the fact it is chipped although the owner has had no problem with it and spent nothing on it bar servicing and maintenance.

As you know, I am not very clued up on motors hence my fishing for info.

I know it's a Mondeo but it is awfully nice with it.

I'd have one over a Mondeo - you get all the benefits of a Mondeo (ie decent chassis, good range of engines, etc etc) with a better image and a posher interior. It's not even that expensive at £6.5k for a 55 plate car.

I'd be concerned about reliability especially with the remap, though. I'd spend some time reading up on Mondeo ST TDCi's - they have the same engine and are popular with enthuisiasts who remap. Should tell you about what happens to the reliability.

The X-Type is smaller inside though than the Mondeo. That includes driver side and rear legroom.

Subject to engine reliability which is a bit iffy, 25k a year would be good to do in one of these, especially as its a lopey diesel. What's the stock bhp? 155bhp? Taking it to 204bhp really is pushing it a bit. Would also be tempted to reduce the tyre size though to improve ride quality.

Depends how much he values space. It's definitely has a smaller cabin. I feel hemmed in by the A pillars and windscreen compared to the larger interior space of the Mondeo.

Regarding the 204bhp figure, I'd be taking that with a pinch of salt.

I really wouldnt want one of these chipped in the first place to be honest

Buy a standard one, which company chipped it? How much did it cost to have done? Where did he get 204BHP from?
TBH I just wouldnt bother
These cars are so cheap now why not save some money and go for an older one perhaps the AWD 2.5, you'll be getting the same car, with a nicer engine thatll still do 38MPG on a nice run.

Lovely cars, especially in Sport trim. I've been eyeing up 2.5 and 3.0 Sports for a little while now, just not sure the saloon is going to be practical for us (when i say us, i mean my partner!)

Agree with this ^^

Good cars, make loads of sense. But get a cheaper one.

The optimistic remap figure would probably be enough to make me walk away tbh. Nice apart from that tho :)

What are the build quality like on these...do they have any rust problems??

No rust issues, they're not a mid 90s ford :)

I found the interior trim feels more plasticy than it looks, but otherwise quite nice. Some design flaws, like if you have one of the front seats quite far forward (to let someone in the back), the side rubs against the door and squeaks.

You've got Ford reliability and cost with Jag personality - I'd have bought one if it wasnt for the fact they were quite pricey 2 years ago and I'd have ended up with a matching car with my dad :)
