Knitting exercises the brain just like a crossword/puzzle and it's actually productive - not that I do it but it's one of those things.

I don't see anything wrong with it, why should he not? and why does performing a productive activity he enjoys to kill time on the train immediately change his sexuality to gay? It's no different at all than someone reading or playing PSP or listening to music, just a less common thing to see, which in my opinion is a good thing in this country full of sheep.
