*** Official Dirt 2 (PC) Thread*** DX 11

I can't even get into the damn game. Gets to the AMD splash screen, plays it and then it turns black. Sometimes after a while it turns white but eventually it bombs out to windows but it doesn't fully recover - does the turn to basic mode and keeps going to a black screen then back to windows and is pretty much totally unresponsive until I finally restart my compy. Only once has it gotten to the Intel splash screen after the AMD one but it bombed out halfway through playing that.

W7 x64 Pro
i5 750
ati 5850 - 9.11
4GB DDR3

Tried running as admin, through steam, not through steam, XP compatability, pretty much everything I can think of and get no where.

Any ideas?

I run the game at ultra settings but its not consistently smooth. Anyone else the same with a top spec?

Get this my 3870 runs it as smooth as butter, at 1280x1024, all set on high accept for view distance and thats set as ultra:D,,, Its awsome game aswel, beats NFS Shift hands down, cos with Shift, theres no room for error at all.
 
game runs excellent, good arcade fun!

Anyone using a steering wheel for this? I'm thinking it will be a lot easier with the pad, am i wrong in thinking this?

I'm using a wheel, not sure if it is easier/harder than a pad, bet makes it great fun :)
 
hmmm I've got some mad graphical artifacts all over the place on dirt2 - running a 5850. Just tried heaven, dx11 benchmark, same thing. Any DX9 / DX10 based game / benchmark runs and looks perfectly.

any ideas?????
 
Realy enjoying this game so far. Everything is set on ultra/high, 8xaa and getting 62fps. I cant find the benchmark tool that was on the demo? Take it its not on the full game?
The g25 was set up perfect, havent had to change any of the settings, and put the difficulty on extreme so that the game lasts abit longer:)#
All in all a great game, would have gladly paid for it
 
Strangely, i find i can do better in races using the keyboard rather than a joypad....input reactions just seem quicker, which is all important in a game like this.
 
I assume you've all been able to enter your names?

I've signed into Live and all that, but creating the in-game profile, I can change my nationality and Gender, but don't seem to be able to change my name away from 'Player One'? Pressing enter over it makes the 'select' noise, but there's no way to delete what's already there/enter my own name?
I hope I'm not doing something too stupid :3

Does exactly the same with my setup, which is the same as yours.
Played GRID earlier for 2 hours and it was fine.. tried launching this and like you said, just a black screen back and for Windows.
Terrible.
 
My pretty old rig plays the game beautifully at max details (dx9)with 4xAA, looks stunning, gameplay isnt too bad either, but its the first time ive ever played a racing game on a keyboard so im pretty rubbish overall

Nope, I had the same problem. It's something to do with the GFW Live integration.

I had to just go with the default name, and then later in the settings you can rename your profile.

I fixed it by unplugging my G25 and restarting the game, could enter it all fine then, weirdly.
But got into a race and couldn't use the wheel, despite plugging it in >_>

GfWL strikes again!

yeah, had to restart game with wheel unplugged, then change controls back to wheel defaults :)
