*** Official Dirt 2 (PC) Thread*** DX 11

Finally got this downloaded and it likes my new reg which is nice.

I have terrible sound problems though. All crackly and stuff.

Anyone else had this and is there a fix? I have an old Audigy 5.1 soundcard which runs fine with everything else.

Probably been asked before, though I can't find it, but is there any way to get this game to work with Hardware sound instead of software. It's currently using that silly Rapture thing which, while working okay, is putting a bit of strain on the cpu. Currently running Win 7 and soundcard is a Creative X-Fi.

I think (correct me if I'm wrong) in Windows7 and Vista, picking the software option is the same as hardware. Windows 7 will use the hardware features if they are available.

How is everyone finding the MP?

It doesn't seem to be anywhere near as smooth as the SP, and much slower, for me and really unresponsive. Is it just my broadband connection letting me down or is it like this for everyone?..........or am I just looking for excuses for not being fast enough?!

Right, been enjoying this game somewhat until today for some reason the performance has dropped so bad I can't drive in a straight line.

Running in sig below @ 1360x768 8xAA High settings bar Car reflection on Ultra, Vsync On.

Two days ago it ran like a dream on the settings above, anyone have any ideas as to why is running poorly now? I've tried lowering AA and things to medium but still no where as good as it was!

just installed it , have to do it through windows live if you have dvd version, no wonder it took 30 mins , 577mb quite hefty !

i get an average of 78.9fps now@1920x1200 , everything on ultra settings,dx11 with crossfire 5770 and amd [email protected],10.3 preview drivers, huge improvement.

Optimisations

• Optimised shadow rendering
• Optimised CPU performance on machines with SMT and multiple cores
• Improvements to frame-rate fluidity and triple-buffering support

Not very good at spotting some cheaters. Recently I have noticed; when I get killed by someone, I fire a few shots towards them but obvousily they kill me first. Yet in the Killcam it shows me, at times, not even firing one shot at them?

EDIT - Ignore/Delete, wrong thread.

LOL, that would have helluva cheat where they can shoot you :)

Anyways, been playing this the past few weeks, seems decent and has quite a lot of events. Some of the vehicles (typically the smaller buggys/raid vehicles) can be very hard to control and you really have to tweak the car setup to stop the oversteer. The good news is that the car setup actually seems to roughly do what it describes so when I get problems with a given car I can then make the necessary tweaks.

Nice to see a range of racing modes that are at least a bit diverse. Favourite mode is probably trailblazer, good chance to build up speed and blast round some bends flatout, gives a bit more of a rush trying to time your slides and dodge rocks at 140mph than some of the more sedate circuits.

I enjoyed the CM tribute video, nice touch to include that and one of the better 'rewards' I've had for 'completing' a game.

Graphically the game looks and performs great (DX9). They could easily use this engine for another game I reckon (Grid2?).

On the downside the menus are a bit of a faff, like most codemasters games you seem to have to click through about 10 meaningless screens just to get started. Same goes after a race, you gotta cancel the replay, click through the race results, get spammed by 99999 new livery and fluffy dice reward notifications I have no interest in and then some slow zoom back to the Outside race venue. Shame you can't suppress all that nonsense and have some quick exit option that puts you straight back into the Dirt Tour menu immediately after a race/tournament ends.

Another thing I noticed compared to Grid was the flashbacks don't seem to go back very far? It's well annoying, if you have a minor crash that you think you can recover from, but then fail after sliding/bouncing around a bit, sometimes that's taken up all the replay buffer so the flashback is worthless. So effectively it means that often you need to use flashback excessively i.e. jump on any kind of crash (clipped wall etc) really quickly in case you miss your chance. Obviously Flashback isn't everyone's cup of tea (some might view it as a cheat) but for the people that do want to use it, it should at least be usable.

got this downloading, i have an aging 9800gtx, 4gb ram, C2D @ 2.8ghz rig, and im worried its going to run bad at 1920x1080, what sort of settings should i expect?
