Defrosting pork under a trickle of hot water

Surely if your going to cook it before eating, it doesn't matter about bacteria, as they will be killed when cooking anyway?

True in the old days, but bacteria nowadays is super-powered. Best thing to do is soak it in Dettol before you cook it. Possibly after, too.

seriously tho. ive had meat in the freezer that ive forgot to take out in advance so only partially defrosted when i cooked it. i dont see what the difference is by cooking on the grillle on warm heat so it gradually defrost whilst cooking anyway by upping the temp....

The problem with the Microwave is the same as warming it up in a pan, the outside is constantly being heated even if the inside is frozen. You risk cooking the outside before you're done defrosting and ruining the meat :(

A decent microwave will have different power settings or defrost mode. The only way you could nuke your meat is if it is in there for like an hour! :p

The best way to do it so to plan ahead. If you know you're having something the next evening, chuck it in the fridge 24 hours before. It should be fully defrosted by the time you need it. On the odd occassion we decide last minute to eat something frozen we put it out in the sun [still in packaging to keep the cat and flies away!] works a treat in Summer. This time of year on the other hand isn't ideal :p
