They moved away because of greed, they benefited from the system since the day they were born and refuse to add to it. I have no time for celebrities and sport people, that moved away because of tax issues.

They move away because our government rapes such people. There should be a large tax free allowance say 10k, then anything over that is 30% or what ever it needs to be to get the revenue to match.

You earn £20,000 and pay £4,000 tax.

I earn £200 million and pay £100 million tax. I would pay £40 million if we shared the same rate... why should I be punished more for earning more?

That is why they leave.
I struggle to see why people don't understand this.

Percentages were pre GCSE "in my day".

because people are morons and look after their own back. They don't realise in 20 years time they might be a area manager and earning over the limits. That a flat tax might mean we pay £50 more a year. I was shocked on saturday when my friends did not understand that higher tax rates for the rich where unfair and why did I hate it so much as I'm not earning that rate, If they think like that, hate to think what the general daily mail reader thinks.

because the tax rate falls harder on the low wage.

If we take numbers that are less exaggerated than those you've used to put across a point, surely the idea of living in a civilized society is that the well off contribute more to the "pot" for the social good of everyone? You don't use the facilities offered to you by that society to climb to the top of the financial heap and then do a runner in order to increase your personal wealth. Equally you don't gamble recklessly with vast amounts of other people's money and then act hurt when you get punished for losing it all.

Well, at the risk of saying something even more unpopular, I think that the more wealthy should be taxed more. I think that the rate of tax should go up as the salary goes up, the more money you earn the more you pay and the more you contribute. How can a flat rate of tax be fairer than a tiered rate?

Explain.

20k year 100k a year
a person living on 20K a year spend a greater % of his income on basic living costs rarther than a person on 100k, a person earning 100k has more disposible income.
10k rent a year is 50% of you income council tax lets say 2k takes up a greater % of his income than someone on 100k, these are things that people need to pay.
20k rent a year is 20% of a 100K income.

I pay higher-rate, but don't mind - do we cancel each other out :p

Utter idiocy, but then what else do we expect from labour.

It won't raise any significant revenue.
It will damage the UK's status as a financial centre.
It will again show Labour thrive on the politics of jealousy.

Taxation should not be used for cheap points scoring.

this.

short sighted, small minded, jealousy driven politics. makes me so :mad:

screw the country some more just to win a vote. bit like Harriet harmen wanting to throw out the English legal system to get Fred Godwin's pension back. genius!

Work hard you get more money, nothing wrong in that. High earners will still pay a lot more with even a flat tax.

It's the same percentage and the high earner pays far more. It can't be a bigger chunk how ever you look at it. But we all know you fail at percentages, just like this.

Because you cant see the concept behind this, its difficult for most to grasp, because its all in relation too. Your just looking what tax they pay and you forget about the percentage proportion of bills that both parties have to pay, it effects them in different ways.

No they can choose to pay more?

They will be paying more, rent/mortgage will be more, food bills will be more and everything else.
once all the basic bills are paid, the low worker hasnt got that choice, the basic bills eat up more of his income.
And? this is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Do you really what communism.

i can see it and it's a pointless point. Why should everyone have the same amount of disposable income.

The point is they CHOOSE to pay more, were as the low income worker has no choice.

No, in many regards they have to pay more. Transport costs in central London for these jobs, houses prices, dress codes for such jobs. Jobs that often are long hours so you have to have child care and other such costs.

Your point is laughable, high tax earners pay far more tax., end of there is no question about this. You like many other people are short sighted and jealousy. After last time I'm surprised you haven't read up on percentages.

Actually living in London, you probably have the cheapest transport costs in the country as a car is totally unnecessary :p
