If peter can sell 20 apples at 10 pence each in 1 hour, then peter raise the price to 1pound and still sells the apples in 1 hour it makes sense to sell them at 1 pound.
This is a business and were in a recession why should the company send someone a more expensive superior card because they have been waiting 1 month for a lesser card.
We all know about manufacturing problems with TSMC and that Dell bought a lot of the stock yet to those like buscuitboy thats OCUKs fault. They will send you the card you ordered when they can get it no one has stock and OCUK manage to get what stock they can before others so i dont see the point in moaning about your consumer rights.
nope, it makes sense to keep increasing the price until they take a bit longer to sell 1 hour is not a long time
Again, missing my point, I said that OCUK could offer the card to the people waiting at a reasonable price, not the same price as the referance card. (ie, reduce their massive margin on the card in order to fulfill the longest waiting backorders whether it be me or someone else!) Comprende??
cant believe i got my 5870 for 299 on day of release. I think its the first time i bought some tech and its actually gone up in price since day of release lol![]()
I have seen this card on pre-order elsewhere considerably cheaper and presumably they are still making a healthy profit. Bottom line, there is sufficient competition for Ocuk and the customer has a choice to make. Today I bought a new monitor, Ocuk had it in stock but it was £46 cheaper elsewhere so I didn't buy it here much as I would have liked to. Consumer choice, simple.![]()
...which is fine in a market in which you have that choice. When no-one else has the item in stock, then OcUK is the only market and they should be expected to sell the item for the price the market will bear. To put it simplistically, if the card is worth more to me than it is to you, the fact that I am willing to pay more will count and I'll get it before you. The trade off is I get the newer technology at an earlier stage, the extra I pay is effectively depreciated over the time until the product is more widely available.
On a separate point, not sure if we're misinterpreting what Fatboy said anyway. He may have been making the reverse point to what posters have assumed - i.e. if any other etailers could actually get the stock, they too might be charging a premium...
There are a couple of retailors who are advertising 5850's at rrp and are awaiting stock.
My point is I don't think Ocuk, particularly, and one or two other retailors have handled the pricing of the 5970\5870\5850 fairly at all and have been maximising profit at the expense of loyal (remember I am not one) customers.
