most grapicly stunning race sim

I think the most upto date graphics wise and a proper sim is GTR eVo. Need4speed shift looks better graphically and is sim like, but not as realistic as the GTR2/GTR eVo series.

In F1? GP2? BTCC? NASCAR?

Very few racing series have Traction Control, easily fits into the 'minority' category.

actually it;s used in F1 and was considered to be such an advantage it was banned for a period, but was realowed in 2002 as they decided the manufactures where finding ways to emulate it's effects.

The ban came into force again a couple of years back when the FIA introduced standard ECU's - the teams can no longer get away with it.

Been re-banned since. There really aren't all that many series that still allow it.

I've heard of some people struggling to get it set up with Grid, but it'll be good for all those games, sims will 'make more use' of the qualities of the G25 though imo (if you get what I mean)

Has the new patch for GRID helped with the compatibility with the G25?

Seriously, after the first lap on Dirt 2 you might want to change your pants

Especially if you haven't used a wheel of a high standard before.

I havn't used a steering wheel since the amiga so i am literally itching with excitement! Besides the fact i love cars and racing games anyway!

grid looks nice, but isn't really a sim...

which is more important, eye candy or realism?

It all depends on what you prefer :p I would much rather have a more simulation style gameplay as long as the graphics are reasonable. If you look at rFactor, Live For Speed etc they aren't bad looking games and can be made to look much better with some modifications.

Lets face it....driving on the pc is never going to be a simulation of the real thing and as for eye candy versus realism...a bit of both is fine and online play is where its at for me:D

You have to chose one or the other I'm afraid. Having said that, while the PC sims don't have the glitter of the arcade racers, the cars are highly detailed as are the tracks (in the departments that matter). I quickly forget that I'm playing a 4 year old sim without the spangly effects once I get into it.

eye candy, realistic sims are generally crap.

arcade all the way :p

I've had the most enjoyable times when using a proper sim. I also love arcade racers such as N4SS and Grid just for the fun factor. I remember using my G25 for the first time with GTR on the nurburgring driving the maserati Mc12. I was absolutely blown away at how good it felt. Proper sims give more information to the wheel it seems and you're much more on edge because it's a lot easier to crash so concentration is higher.

Richard burns rally is another brilliant sim. It's old and dated now, but the concentration it demands to keep the car from crashing is exhausting for me. No arcade racers do that. There is no fear because you can razz round a corner without touching the brakes.

iRacing is semi-good graphically, certainly better (imo) than rFactor/LFS (stock at least)

But as mentioned, generally sims aren't as bothered about graphics as the actual sim part is far more important, and also takes a big chunk of cpu power to do which is gonna affect how pretty the graphics could realistically be...

iRacing is also good as it's the best sim out there :p

What he said.

Iracing will give your wheel a good workout, you'll understand why you bought a Force Feedback wheel once you try it. Graphically it doesnt have the bells and whistles of Dirt2, but the cars are very well modelled and move very realistically from the in car view.

Graphically Dirt2 is quite nice, the feedbacks very underwhelming and arcadey, but a fun game all the same.

I think it's safe to say that NFS: Shift is the best look driving game out there. Has all the graphical effects present in GRID but far more realistic lighting, sharper textures (less blur effecs) and in general, more detail.

I'm not sure if it can be defined as a racing simulator, but at the same time it's not totally arcadey. Has a good balance between realism and accessibility imho.

Also the latest patch has fixed quite a few things and makes playing the game a far smoother experience (at least for me anyway). The game should run and look absolutely mint on your system.
