Modern car hate club

It fits with the "no driver aids, no airbags, no ABS, no Safety features, no Aircon, doors made of recycled take away tins" so meets the non modern car standards

:p

Depends entirely.

For example, the current, fords, vauxhalls, peugeots and everything else all look and feel exactly the same to me.

However, special modern day stuff like the GTR, Porsches etc feel and look fantastic and 'just right' for the era we are in.

So I prefer older cars as they certainly have more charactor imo but if I like a new car it is typically something I cannot afford :p

Another proud owner of an old car here. :D

My name is Jonny69 and I hate modern cars. I don't like being cooped up in a bland soundproofed box isolated from the road. I want to be part of the experience.

Looking for other like minded individuals.

Define modern. Mines 8 years old. Hardly soundproofed, not isolated, and rather involves you in the experience :D

I think I am in the position to appreciate the best of both worlds.

When all you want to do is get somewhere as comfortably, safely and with as little hassle as possible you can't beat a new car. That is until they invent a teleport machine.

For the joy of ownership I'm all about the classics.

The thing is, comfortable isn't really that comfortable for me. I need to feel the engine vibrating, I need to feel resistance when turning, accelerating, braking, etc. I need to feel the bumps in the road. I need to hear the engine work. Otherwise it's like trying to run with two numb legs. You can do it, but it's very disconcerting.

I've only driven two modern cars (Ford Focus and Fiat Bravo), but they have both been awful in this regard. Give me a 17 year old Astra any day.

Edit: A fleeting thought. My car will be 17 years old in March, does that mean it will be old enough to drive itself? :D

Try a Mk1 Astra GTE!

If you want engine Vibe, try my 205 with grpN engine mounts, did 130 miles on Tuesday, and my eardrums were buzzing for about 2 hours afterwards... lmao Thought I needed a new mirror as mine was out of focus ;)

But my Satnav, for some inexplicable reason, routed me down loads of country roads and then the Fosse Way.... Must have sensed it was in a car built for corners!

:D

No modern cars in our household:

Neither have electric windows, central locking, power steering, ABS, TSC, aircon, electric mirrors etc etc.

The only real drawback is the Manta steams up a lot in winter because of the pillarless windows (hard to get them to seal properly)

To the people who talk about safety in a crash, it's honestly never crossed my mind. I just don't think like that I suppose.
