***Official Left 4 Dead 2 Thread***

Vent is good for chatting when in the lobby, between level changes and general banter when playing against each other. In game chat is still used which is good for tactics such as the "Stevenight" Charger.
I can't believe it took me so long to get Knubje on Vent.

Possibly daft question Knubje but how do you know which channel is for which team?

It also probably would have been quicker to install Vent than it took you to write that post FrenchTart :p

it says who's i neach one so just join the one with the right players in :p

:o

Does this mean having to midify which keys to use then each time I want to play a game?

Also, I am aware that scripts can be made for Source Engine games but I'm not entirely sure how. What I want to do is make a script that can automatically change to sound settings to reflect me either using Vent or the in-game voice chat. Is this possible?

In their opinion :p

Hehe naah, tbh I've tested Mumble on your server a while back and I found it exactly as awesome as vent, no noticable difference for your standard user.

TeamSpeak and Skype on the other hand, can burn in hell!

Yeah..But it's fun to argue pointlessly :p

I think the new version of Mumble should be quite interesting (it has some newer codec that supposedly halves the latency)... but I'll accept that there's not any point in people moving over when you've already got a successful vent server :)

No. Vent has a universal push to talk button so whatever room you are in you will speak in that room.

We often just join one room if in a game but there maybe multiple rooms for multiple games/teams.

TBH, I have all my source games set to how I want in game sound, which is usually low because I mostly use speakers and the MRS is watching TV :(

I have set my vent to be slightly louder than in game so I can always hear people over the game, which can be annoying some times. You can also adjust individual peoples volume in vent as some people who join have microphone volumes ridiculously loud!!

There is also a script for vent which equalizes voices to the same level I believe, I've never used it though.

Aye, from reading that review they are write good reviews for Mumble and Vent. From a brief read the only difference I can see is that Mumble reports the latency slightly more accurately than vent?

To be honest, as long as the latency is under 50 m/s which it nearly always is that means as instant as you are going to get :)

Vent is great quality, those of us with good mics can hear each other from the corner of the room easily and clearly.

After seeing everyone speak so highly of this game I just got it today since it was only £19.99 in gamestation, thanks for letting me know about the deal whoever it was earlier :D Installing now.

The "Level a Charge" achievement makes no sense....

Ive axed a charger while its running and while on adrenaline and still the bugger doesnt die, what gives ?

Er, you are aware a Charger has 500hp right... and a single melee attack doesn't kill it (except maybe on Easy?). Shoot it a lot first.

This achievement evades me still, killing it while it charges with melee is either achievement hunting or pure fluke (i know some ******* in an 8v8 got this achievement by killing me as i rushed them ). 99.9% of the time its easier, and safer, to kill it with a gun and melee it if it hits a wall near you.

I've got it evil ;) (genuinely too, got it on of our expert realism runs)

You get it pretty easy if your team is on the ball Ie thewy are shooting it when they see it before/during it;'s charge and you're quick enough to pull out your melee/have it out already to finish it off as it goes past you.

or if you run out of ammo halfway thorugh shooting it and auto switch to melee :p
