If there are young children there you could dress her as santa on the pretence she's there to hand gifts to the kiddies once thats done she could reveal herself :)

Good idea.

I'd find out from her parents what they are planning on getting her for christmas (if you don't already know). I have family in the US and we have to post their presents in plenty of time to get there, i'm sure they wouldn't like to post her present to her then she turn up on the doorstep.

This, but knock on the door before ending the conversation. Then they'll have to do the whole "Hang on a second there's someone at the door" thing.

He has a good point - there should only be a surprise if it isn't going to cause any stress, otherwise you might be known as 'the pain in the arse boyfriend who turned up uninvited'.

If you are going to go with the surprise route, you could pretend to be her rescuer, her minder, or her 'parole officer'.

I think this is the most pointless thread I have read in GD, and that includes those by dvdbunny. Why does xmas bring out all the retards ?

Actually, it has been pretty worthwhile in my opinion... I wouldn't have thought about Tank's idea until he wrote it and I think that's the one I'm going to use!

Many thanks for the ideas, the one with the police and car crash gave me a chuckle! :p

And thankfully her surprise will not ruin her family's Christmas (must be a terrible family to begin with if that did happen...) and I'm sure they'll enjoy having her home! Christmas presents have all been taken care of; I said I'd haul them out in an extra suitcase in February when I go out to see her, so everyone is giving me their presents to give to her then...

^TANK^ and that extra doorbell thing at the end is what I'm going to go with!
 
Tank's idea is a very good one.

You could also book a meal and have her waiting there. Or maybe you could get the local am dram group to give her a spot in their panto.
