when will people realise the cost of the 4890 when new wasnt £130, there different cards completly, if im not mistaken the 4890 was the top (single gpu) card in ati's lineup of last gen cards, this gen the 5870 is so far their top card, this would place the 5770 against the 4850 as i this was around the same price when released (i think)
1] I'm on the side of the 4890 so not quite sure why you are attacking my post?
2] It doesn't matter what it cost a year ago, it matters what it costs NOW, and NOW the 4890 and 5770 are in the same price band.
My point, which you appear to have missed, is that people recommending the 5770 over the 4890 on the basis of a miracle performance increase in an, as yet, unreleased driver is lunacy.

It's about 20-30% faster in most titles. Obviously it's not great value with the current price premiums but it's still a decent card, especially considering the value it offers with DX11 and lower power consumption. And it offers even better value if you're considering a Crossfire setup further down the line. We may even see the performance margin increasing with future driver updates.4890 isn't much slower than a 5850, at least not enough to justify an upgrade imho, unless of course you want a quieter card, dx11 etc.
Is the fix for the witcher coming in this patch does anyone know?
I have an ATI 5870 and it also happens to me. The fix that I use is changing the resolution to 800x600 and then changing back to the one I use (I just hit 'No' when it asks if I want to keep the new resolution). It normally works.
1] I wasnt attacking you,![]()
2] Who in their right mind would recommend dx10 cards over dx11 at the same price point, drivers or not, whats the 5770 going to cost in a year?
I dont think you can compare prices fairly as its old tech that shops and ati will want rid of so its going to be priced low, to sell to people less in the know, the only way to compare with prices is at release
I don't know but I like the Withcer and want to play it again so I'm keen to know as well if this gets fixed. In the mean time you might want to try this if you haven't already tried it.
Link A couple of people have said this has fixed the issue for them.

Who in their right mind recommends you buy the slower card? The 5770 DX11 performance has already been shown to be poor so the DX11 argument is invalid.
Your idea of comparing prices at release and not at time of purchase is just bizarre.
But that's what I don't get, as the price of two is the same as a 5850. And with a single card you don't have to worry about titles not working well with Crossfire and always have the option to add a second card later. If people can hold off just a bit then the price of the 5850 will drop and it will offer even better value.I think a-lot of people who are buying the 5770 are doing so in crossfire. I my self would not buy just one 5770 as it would not be good enough for my needs.

I think it was the fact that for a long time you just couldn't get a 5850. Throw in the fact that two 5770 are cheaper and beats the 5850 in performance I can see why a lot of people went down the route of buying two 5770's.
Once 5850 are out in numbers and the price drops to £200 again, then it becomes hard to justify two 5770 purchases.
I'm just glad I got my 5850 the first week at £198![]()
Thats exactly why i bought 2 5770's Purely because they are just that bit better than the 5850's and in some titles are on par with the 5870.. As soon as there is more stock for the other cards i'll go back to a single card solution!
