ATi Catalyst 9.12's Next Wednesday.

Looking forward to some non beta drivers for my cards.

Should finaly see some good performance out of them I hope.

The 9.11 had locked refresh rates to 24hz in some games (adding resolutions in CCC did not stop this), reverted back to 9.10 no more problems. Contacted ATI and the person said these should be fixed in 9.12, hope they are.

Of course they won't, no performance driver has ever delivered what they claim.

Also, other nvidia for the "big-bang" drivers, when have nvidia or ati claimed anything about drivers being a big boost? Its always been articles or people on forums.

My guess is there will be some toys exiting prams come next Wednesday, especially from the 5770 crowd when it doesn't magically perform better than a 4890. ;)

I'd be suprised. I don't exactly recall the 4890 being £120ish brand new ;)

Often performance drivers tend to be big fixes for specific games and thats usually a few titles that had fairly large problems in the first place, but still welcome.

I don't think we've had "performance" drivers that actually give a decent boost across the board since the days when Nvidia would hold back a little juice for just before a rivals launch, which was frustrating as owning a GF3 back then, only for them to unlock 15% more performance to pee off the competition, when I could have had that speed the whole time is just crap. Then again the GF3 in its day tore through almost everything anyway at 1600x1200(remember those non widescreen days on crt's).

I'd expect some bigger game fixes, some optimisation for dx11 stuff will probably be the biggest gainer and maybe some tweaks to efficiency of getting full power out of the shaders. But as others have mentioned, the shader clusters have really only had very minor tweaks to them since the 4series cards.

Don't get your hopes up too high basically, my bet would be most games will get a numbers boost but 5% extra is almost never actually visible to the end user. Fixes to low framerates with bugs are massively noticeable though. Bug fix drivers are almost universally better for the end user than performance increase drivers. 60 up to 63fps? or a bug fix that means a drop to 25fps minimum rather than 5fps, I know which I prefer.

Again saying that, I have no games right now that have bug's :p

Was more aimed at all the "4890 or 5770" threads where people suggest getting the 5770 because Cat 9.12 will give a big performance boost. As they are both priced the same at the moment I would still buy the faster 4890.

This will be the first official Cat drivers for the 5970...

This release will either make or break my Christmas!

Fingers crossed, and hope for the best!
