Just received our first electric bill from npower.

£311 for 6 weeks! How is that even possible.

We apparently used over 1800 KWh during the day in this period. That's 42 KWh per day. This is also actual readings not estimated.

Central Heating is electric and I use my PC maybe 5-6 hours a day at most and myself and girlfriend are at work and Uni respectively during the week.

Should I get somebody round the check the meter is working correctly. I wouldn't mind if I was growing weed or something but I'm not.

Help!

Obviously wrong. Probably a billing error. Phone them up and enquire.

Probably an immigrant family in your loft, bottling it up sending it back to the motherland.

or an error

My thoughts too, or that the bill hasn't started from the day you moved in 6 weeks ago.

You did ring them up on the day you moved in and informed them that you have now moved into the place right?

20p and hour for first 94 KWh and 15p after that I believe.

2 bedroom apartment, we use heating maybe an hour or two each evening. It's economy 7.

Central healing isn't on a timer or anything we put it on as and when required usually 1-2 hours a night. Would this use so much electric on it's own?

Central Heating is electric

My sherlock powers are picking up a clue.....

Electric heating costs a bomb, for reference I had 2 storage heaters which charge at night and release heat during the day so you get a cheap nightly rate. Running these at a reasonable middling heat, comfortable but not roasting was costing approximately £200 a month.

Needless to say I don't use them anymore and use cheap(er) convector heaters until I can get a house elsewhere and move out of here,

I've had a similar experience and it was an blatant error. I would have had to have been heating 6 swimming pools and providing electricity for the entire street with what they initially billed me. Several hundred phone calls later... all sorted. I then switched provider.

We have electric heating in my apartment too, which so far this winter we haven't used once.

I borrow the sheer heat being blasted in this building from the floors above, below and from the heater right outside my apartment in the hallway ;)

Thats storage heaters for you.

they used to make up 3/4's of my bill.

Might ask the neighbours if they use their heating. The entire building has electric heating (100 apartments).

I guess I will have to purchase some warmer clothes.

Not being funny here but rather than checking this thread 5 times in the last 5 minutes you should be on the phone to the electric company.

I hope your not one of those kids who gets there mother to do everything for them.

Actually I'm at work earning the money to pay this bill. The account is in the girlfriends name so they won't speak to me anyway.
