787 first flight this afternoon...

Think the pilots have forgotten where the gear lever is, lol.

Standard testing procedure to keep them down until happy that everything is working as it should.

It should be up within the next hour or so i'd imagine, A380 flew for 30 mins IIRC with them down for checks.

Basically the idea is if something goes wrong that the gear is down ready!

Pretty impressive but all you could hear were the over excited yanks doing their thing. Looking forward to the A350.

You'll be waiting a while :p, when i worked there all they had were design problems, although they have just ifnished building the A350 landing gear test rig at Filton now :cool:

I love the Boeing glass cockpit, knocks spots off the Airbus.
 
The layout isn't too much different from a 777, current 777 pilots to 787 pilot transition only requires an extra 5 days training iirc.
 
The main difference appears to be the large screens with multiple instruments rather than a greater number of smaller screens, still very obviously a Boeing layout though.
