Can you buy Alcohol in Tesco 24/7?

It just comes up on the screen as age restricted product. You click the cashiers button type in the user number and password, then click age id not required. Pay and leave.

Yes but a number of the stores I worked in essentially had a cut off point. For example the lottery you obviously couldn't buy it after the deadline, the machines wouldn't work. As on a sunday, our tills were set to go belly up at 6.30 or maybe 6.15 as we were meant to stop all sales at 6. You couldnt even access the off licence after around 10.50 anyway

You know your an alcoholic when ...

You memorise the Tesco self scan operator ID code.

ah the village, how I miss it so

Shudders.....

Or Northern Ireland unless you ring one of those "Dial a Drink" cabs.

Anyone ever done that!? Dont think iv every been so desperate to dial for a drink at 2am....

I miss MK's 24 hour tesco some times, theres something very satisfying about a trip at 2am for discounted deli and bakery products with a large amount of beer in hand too.... :D

Yeah, and asda.
I managed to get served in asda when I was absolutely steaming friday, 2 in the morning, i'd had a 70cl bottle of jd and 4 cans of carling. Walking wasn't the easiest but I fancied a cobra, 2 big bottles, and despite obviously being hammered, still served me.
I was happy with that :D

Only drank one though, I would have been throwing up had I drank the other.

Well regardless if your telling the truth or not you would be screwed on the security sealed items anyway. which consists of most of the *good* alcohol

Lottery has to connect to a server, alcohol does not.I'm assuming different stores have different versions of the till software.

Im aware of this, I was using it as an example, basically im trying to tell you in the multiple stores I worked there was a cut off point. Though it was slightly flexible to allow for problems with queuing (15mins lets say), you could not run alcohol through any till after a certain time, it just would not be accepted.

Self service tills are reasonably new in the UK, at least in NI. I cant imagine the software being massively different. Though I guess if you lot have 24hr places they could just roll that out everywhere

Of course, as stated, that depends entirely on which country you are in.

Yeah I worked in the biggest NI store at the time, xmas was mental in BWS. They stopped security tagging a ton of stuff because it was seen as time wasting lol

My local tesco stop selling booze at 10pm. Luckily I know the code on the self service as I saw them type it in when the flashing card thing wasn't working so I can get booze whenever I want. Only done it once though, don't really want to get banned from the store lol.

The cut off limit at our tesco is 11pm, anything after that and the till will not let you run any alcohol through. No age restriction comes up, just an alert that "Due to licencing laws, this item cannot be purchased." You can enter the code to remove the message, but any attempt to scan it again will result in the same. Unless you have a magic Tesco, you are lying. This is straight from the self scan checkout supervisor's mouth. (my girlfriend)
