BladeRunner Blu Ray, which one?

Because it makes you think, has one of the best soundtracks - and has stunning visuals/cinematography for it's time (1982) - don't forget that's nearly 30 years old. Do you think people will be as interested in Transformers/Cloverfield/Iron Man in 30 years time ?

Much like 2001 (made in 1968) which also had all three of the above - which the same type of people 'don't get' - and switch off after half an hour, simply because they aren't as clear cut as similar movies in that genre.

Fortunately, both films are usually up there in the 'Top 100' movies lists and in my opinion always will be and should be - as a good few people appreciate their film being art over arse ;)

What exactly is it that people like about this film? I watched half an hour of it and was bored out of my skull

I watched it for the first time the other night. I guess the film itself is pretty pedestrian (ie the story), but they totally nailed the atmosphere and the script and acting are great. So I thoroughly enjoyed it - this thread is good because I want to get it on bluray now.

I just re-visited this film again, this time round in the Final Cut bluray version. This was after watching the documentary on the making of the film (BBC3 IPlayer).

Amazing what they achieved back then with limited analogue effects and an awful lot of hard work.... i.e mostly shot at night.

I think parts of the story line and the atmosphere and tone of the film is what interests me .....I continue to enjoy the film more each time I see it.

I watched it again the other week (I got the LE with car:p), and as you say it's amazing what they could/can do with what were fairly low tech (but highly developed) methods, and hard work.

It's a shame that CGI is being used so much now, as there is often the problem that CGI really doesn't date that well, whilst good practical effects, models and a good knowledge of film making lasts.
I really need to watch the documentaries and commentaries for BR some time, I suspect when I'm painting would be a good time.

Talking of practical effects, I've got a book by some of the guys who worked at the BBC props department (Blake 7, Doctor Who etc), which I keep meaning to read as I've been told it's interesting (and might give me some tips/ideas for my models).

If you like Blade Runner, and don't mind animation the classic Anime Bubblegum Crisis (not the 2040 remake) is very close in look/feel to Bladerunner at times (and indeed has loads of references to it).

Me - stick to the final cut, because AFAIK this is the version Sir Ridley Scott wanted to make, but the Studio interfered & put the Harrison Ford Commentary in which makes it worse. That & the fact that its dirt cheap now, I don't need the big boxset with the small car.

as other have mention that their is a 5 disc collection that can be bought off ebay it region free and offical edition not a bootleg. it contains all version of blade runner plus a never released workprint copy of the movie.

At the moment the Matrix Triology on blu-ray is going for £17 which I think is a damn good bargin.

I might consider buying that special edition blu-ray from amazon, now to find someone who has a blu ray player who could have my final cut as a xmas present!

Just picked up the Matrix Triology on blu ray in Tesco for £10

personally i like all the versions . teh voiceover gives another insight into the movie imo

I'm afraid I don't like the original release and this is one of the reasons.
The "voiceover", "lovey dovey ending" were added to keep the US audience happy - then, as now, they really don't like sad/incomplete endings to film and so the rest of us need to suffer as well!
The removal of the dream sequence was just crazy - don't leave the paper animal in and remove the dream sequence.

The "final cut" is as far as I'm concerned the version to watch. It is as close as Scott wanted it to be and it makes for a much more complete film.
It doesn't pretend to be happy - it tells you that "love doesn't conquer all" - things die, things reach "end of life" and some people who think they are human, aren't - and will suffer the same fate.

The general rule is, that if it's not primarily selling stuff ocuk do, the name in relation to other items OCUK don't do is ok (so amazon are ok in relation to books/cd's/dvd's/blu-rays, cookers, toasters, calenders, dishwashers etc).

I've been banned for just mentioning Amazon before :(.

stoofa....i'm aware of the usa ( make it sense to us ) version :) i'm just saying i think it makes the whole blade runner experience complete.
