rage against the x-factor - Outcome: RATM is the Christmas Number One!

Its a singing competition

Not a songwirting competition.

Correct, it's a singing contest - so that has to exclude anyone with more than just a voice?

So any singer who doesn't write their own material is just a karaoke singer? If so that is an awful lot of respected singers...

No and apologies if thats how my point has come across, but I feel the music industry has taken it too far, with cover songs. I mean c'mon, ITS A MILEY RAY CIRUS SONG ... hardly a timeless classic re-done is it?

Taken from Wiki, to both you and Easy:

Karaoke (カラオケ?, a portmanteau of Japanese kara 空 "empty," and ōkesutora オーケストラ "orchestra")[1](English pronunciation: /ˌkæriːˈoʊkiː/; Japanese: [kaɽaoꜜke] ( listen)) is a form of interactive entertainment or video game in which amateur singers sing along with recorded music (and/or a music video) using a microphone and public address system. The music is typically a well-known pop song minus the lead vocal.

At the end of the day its all fun.

We should all be thankful we are all warm and happy at this time of year.

Many are not

I have my own musical agenda.I have for years. I play many instruments and write music. I have no problem with Xfactor. It means very little to me.

I hardly watch TV and only listen to 6 music and Radio 2 and 4

Media now, is so fragmented we can choose and schedule our own consumption of it.

The bottom line is you don't have to watch or listen to anything if you don't want to.

Embrace these new times not complain about them.

There is that famous converstaion between Paul Mccartney and John Lennon in Lennon's back garden.

Lennon didn't have a swimming pool at the time. They both looked at each other and said "lets write a swimming pool" so they did.

Free RATM tracks from Nokia music. Found this on FB.

Looks like this only works if you already have a Nokie mobile with "Comes with Music."

I cant join without one, so guess it's kinda pointless. I bought the RATM single anyway, might buy a one from Tesco and email it to my dad :p

Not disputing that fact, however why shouldnt I be represented in the charts?
I have never, ever, ever been represented in the charts... this is my opportunity :)

And when will I be represented in the charts with Clawfinger, Slayer, the Haunted, Devildriver and a string of other artists?
I've been taking an active interest in music since 1970 and the charts have never bothered me and I couldn't give a stuff about number 1's as long as I could go out and buy what I wanted.
If more people like a brand of music more than mine, so what?

It's quite amusing however that what, 17 Million people vote on the final and the X Factor winner got x% of votes? So that's at least half (I have no idea what margin he won by) yet the CD is still struggling to win Christmas number 1? It's obvious people aren't too interested in buying the song, so he can't be that good eh?

It's quite simple, me and many more millions watch the X-Factor because of the comedy and inside fighting element of it.
Around 18 million people will have absolutely no interest in buying a record associated with the X-Factor.

What is sad is that 100s of 1000s of people will be buying a single by a band/genre that they don't like just to make a protest.
If you really want to make a difference to the charts then buy your singles every week like I did when I was a kid (even though I bought singles that probably wouldn't get into the charts).
You all sit there protesting behind your keyboards but how many of you have actually bought singles from the main sites before?
It is very clear that the majority of people in this thread are download virgins.

I've never bought any music via download before this.

However, all my music is bought on CDs and I'm in to this type of music, but I can see where you're coming from.

EDIT: By this type I meant "genre". Metal, whatever you want to call it.. and I already own 2 Rage albums and some Audioslave.

I've got the album already and have had for years, but I used this as my first ever legal download. It was educational!
