rage against the x-factor - Outcome: RATM is the Christmas Number One!

You must like Jay-Z then mustn't you?

Not really, but he is clearly talented otherwise he wouldn't as successful and acclaimed as he is.

Notice that I've never once belittled some one else's right to an opinion? Something you obviously don't understand.

My post was, quite obviously but perhaps not obviously enough, a light-hearted joke on my use of the words subjectively and objective. Nevertheless, some people are of the opinion that the earth is flat, curiously. I dislike slayer, but they are hardly not talented. Talent is rarely subjective - taste is.

why is channel 4 the only one to say this? why do people seem to think Simon is emperor of sony?

Its quite simple, thats the level of intelligence of the people you are dealing with.

As far as these people are concerned Simon Cowell IS music, he is the key to fame and fortune.

Not being talented, not hard work, nothing so crass as that, just going up to Cowell, singing like a howling dog for 20 seconds and then hoping he sees something he can wrap up and market in your face.

He then puts you through to his researchers who pick your past life apart looking for deaths, disabled relatives, mental illness or anything else they can use to pull on the public heartstrings.

I think this is the only time I've agreed with you. :p

When it comes down to it all:

I'd rather be a sheep with its middle finger (hoof?) in the air at the sheppard than one of the ones baa'ing and licking its crotch at the back.

:D

But you're still being the latter by doing the RATXF thing. You're just following a movement, so you're still a sheep, but instead of being a sheep of X factor, you're a sheep of a more "cool" movement.

I myself don't care what gets to number one, I don't even listen to the chart shows because they are all just numbers. If I listen to something that I like then it doesn't matter to me whether it is number 1 or number 101, it's good to me so I'll enjoy it regardless of chart location.

Whats the most ridiculous thing you've heard about rage so far from all these numpties who have only learned of their existence since the campaign started?

And on them swearing when agreeing not to, I agree with Sandra. They AGREED not to swear, and then they swore. What kind of men age they that they can’t keep their word? There was a time when a mans word was like a contract, but these people don’t seem to have any respect or honour, and if they lied about that then how the hell can we trust them to give the money to charity and not pocket it for themselves?

Yeah, because anarchy is such a good idea, lets all destroy things and steal and generally mess up everything our democracy has worked for.

They’re so arrogant and I hope Joe gets to #1, he’s a lot nicer than these elitist ‘my music is better quality than your music’ idiots

So they agreed not to swear and changed their mind afterward? They also agreed to give the money to the charity, will they also change their mind? Now, I have serious doubt…

Save the old man pep talk

You miss the point, it is far from being an old man pep talk so get down from your horse and here's the reason why -

I dont expect to win, but at least we stood up and had a platform where we can voice our protest against the pop drivel you hear on the radio on a daily basis.

Who's fault is it that pop drivel is in the charts every week?
Answer, mine, yours and everybody else in this thread.
If we aren't willing to buy decent music and get it into the charts then we have no right to protest about it by buying a one off single.
As soon as this is over how many of you will try to make an impact on the singles charts with the music you love?

None, i mean, really, who buys singles these days?
Other than the 3 versions (so far) of "Killing in the Name" i seriously cannot remember the last single i bought, and whatever it was, i more than likely bought it for the other tracks with it rather than the title track itself.

I am really enjoying this whole affair though, i have not been interested in the charts at all in decades, this is bringing life back to it.

Hence I said I'd rather be a sheep with a middle finger in the air than the other kind :p

Too much talk of sheep in this thread. As someone already pointed out, society makes us conform to some tradition, act or event in some way or another. Everyone does it, regardless if they think they are SO individual that they don't.

Sometimes like minded people have to come together under a global flock to stick it to the man for the greater good. This, imo, is one of those times :D

This thread is getting way out of hand lol.

I would rather buy a bands song who donate to charity and a good cause over anything else.

Rage are doing this and fair play to them, that alone gets my vote over some kid who will rake in the profits.

Offtopic but haha at the idea that Jay Z isn't talented. He's probably the best rapper alive and he got there under his own steam, which is commendable.

The problem, as ever, is that people struggle to distinguish good music from music they like. Jay Z is incredibly talented. Rage are very talented. Radiohead are amazing, but their music is quite an acquired taste, so I understand people not liking them but they'd be stupid to say they aren't good at what they do. Kerry King is an amazing guitarist, but I don't like Slayer. Mariah Carey has a great voice, but the only song of hers I own is the Christmas one.

The x factor machine is very talented, but in the field of marketing, not music. The public don't buy a single, so much as the x factor creates a market.

your too even headed and sensible for this forum, i suggest other places for this kind of talk.

But the RATM record wasn't a charity record and still isn't.
When the band found out what was happening they decided to give SOME of the money to charity (it may be ALL now).

I know it wasn't, but it shows they are not doing it for monetary needs and even with the chance of a christmas number 1, they are selling records and doing something very beneficial with the money.

How can you knock that at all?

Shows the movement of people can change aspects of life, and i this case for good because a charity is gaining money?

The rant is getting annoying at the moment, i couldn't care who wins, but i just dont like it how people are knocking the whole situation, due to the fact that ONLY good is coming from this campaign in the long run.

Does Joe have a poor voice?

Yes, its weak and reedy.

Compare him to anybody with a good voice and its laughable that people are saying he has a great voice.

Good singers are not something that grows on trees, its not like 95% of the populatiion can be great singers if "only we got the chance".

Bought my copy from amazon.

I take it I can buy from Play and HMV from the same IP?

Also, I'm going to Bristol and Bournemouth tomorrow, can I buy more copies in those places under diff IP's but the same accounts?
