rage against the x-factor - Outcome: RATM is the Christmas Number One!

If it weren't 10 vs 1 it would be too easy ;) :pIf they had bought they song because they like it, fine. However, the group was set up, designed and run to maximise RATM's position in the chart, and for no other purpose.

Well if you want to read the rules then word for word, it says nothing about soul purpose only that it distorts the charts. which adverts and x-factor does.

However why not take the Official charts companys word for it, it does not brake the rules and is fine as shown last year and as they have not complained to John morter despite being in regular contact with him all week.

That's a good point. All any of us have done is line the pockets of Sony.

There's a huge irony that RATM's revolutionary politics have just been spun in their face.

Obviously Sony have made some money out of this, but the profits that Rage make are going to charity - you shouldn't forget that.

But i think the suggestion you make that Rage have sold out is ridiculous - Yes they are signed to a subsidiary of Sony, but thats for distribution and marketing etc... they could have told Sony to go away, but then what would that serve? their message wouldnt of got to the millions of people it has so far.

In my opinion signing onto a major record company is not selling out, its called the next level of your bands career - i would say if Rage had toned down their message, their acts, their beleifs at the request of Sony then that is selling out...

INFACT - being signed to Sony and having such outspoken views and taking such radical acts is the opposite of selling out, they are legends.

Edit: it was because of their political beliefs that they were chosen to combat this pop pish, as they have already said, it may be a small, almost insignificant issue in the wide range of social politics but its still a watershed moment and hopefully a signal of things to come.

They have anarchist/anti-capitalist views. Yet, have just pulled a blinder for the capitalists. You're being ironic, right?
And also got massive publicity around the world for their cause and upset the state of things. exactly what they are about.

There's a huge irony that RATM's revolutionary politics have just been spun in their face, as they've garnered a ton of money for a giant corporation, and a ton of publicity for Simon Cowell and the X-Factor.

We were all aware where the money was going before we started.

The campaign wasn't about depriving Sony of money, it was to get a decent song to number 1. A statement that we're tired of the dross peddled by Cowell and his cronies.
