Bloody Salespeople

For God's sake people, do get real. Deific probably brought the only smile in his/her incredibly boring day to that "innocent person just doing their job". At least he didn't swear or shout at them which is what happens most of the time.

You do know that these calls that are coming through to you and not being answered are probably a predicitive dialler caling your number but sadly the time you pick up there isn't an agent free to talk to you. This isn't the agents fault it's the system that is in place to dial as many numbers as possible to keep call centre staff busy.

see here

I usually ask who they want, when they say Mr soandso, I usually respond, oh thats my Dad, I'll go get him, he's in the garden. Then I put the phone down and carry on doing what I'm doing... about 20 odd minutes later I usually replace the phone.. I think I should get a percentage of the profits I generate for BT :)

This happens to me a lot. I tend not to answer the landline anymore as people who know me can ring me mobile.

But when i have picked up the phone, i have had a woman speaking to someone next to her,i could hear the whole conversation, when a said hello she didn't even know i had picked up.

But mainly i pick up say hello, and no one speaks back so i hang up, then a few minutes later it rings again, no one speaks i hang up. It happens about 4 times then stops.

I'm all for harassing the people who call up and try to scam me, but to harass some poor customer services chap who has done nothing to you isn't on.

You should be ashamed of yourself for lowering to that standard.

Hmmm, you could have at least attempted to be vaguely humorous in your attempts to 'stick it to the man'. That's pretty puerile behaviour and, to be honest, all you've succeeded in doing is grossing out the innocent party on the other end of the line.

Also, a "dam" is a structure used to hold back the advance of a body of water. Sorry but that really annoys me. :p

Sign up to the TPS. If someone does phone you anyway, the magic line is "... and please remove me from all your marketing and sales databases".

If its a British company, they have to by law remove you from the DB. Kitchens direct was the only one that seemed to take no notice of this, but after 5 times of me being put through to a human sales tubby they got the message and I cant recall the last time I got a marketing phone call.

I was getting annoyed by the people that knock on your door though (I work from home) as I was getting at least one person a day. A couple of months ago I put a sign on the door saying "No Cold Callers" and I havent had one person bother me since.

Sounds like a few people have no clue as to how a call centre works...

The agents have no controll over the calls, they do not dial the numbers themselves, it's all done via the servers/scripts/database, supplied to the call centres via the clients etc... so well done for harrasing an innocent person just doing their job :(

OP = FAIL!

For future ref: use TPS to stop cold calls !!!

I used to work in a call center so i know how they work, TPS does not stop all the calls, if its a dodgy company or overseas it doesnt stop them.

If i politely refuse their fantastic offer that should be the end of it. If they want to stay on the line thats their problem.

Not really needed as it seems Sam actually took your number off their systems. If you wanted to make a point you could have done it in a far more mature manner in my opinion. I've worked in a call centre before on both the phones and a chat service and customers that are deliberately obtuse or offensive are a real cause of stress for call handlers and chat agents.

I'm happy that you had your problem fixed but I'm not pleased with the way you handled the situation and I hope that Sam had a couple of minutes break after speaking to you.

I have done the same and it hasn't worked for me. I had one guy ring my bell recently and when I opened the door, he said "I hope that doesn't apply to me? with a grin on his face. I gave him a smile, said "Hang on a tic, I'll just go and check the rules", closed the door and left him to his own devices.

he said "I hope that doesn't apply to me? with a grin on his face.

:o I think I would have had to tell him that no, that sign didnt apply to him. Instead, people that make it past the deterrent of the sign get a free gift of a swift kick to the gentleman's area!

Like you were really going to buy something off someone who has blatantly gone against your wishes. "Actually, you are right. What was I thinking when I put that sign up? I must have been having a grumpy day. Come in, let me buy your warez..."

Eeejits.

Do one. It was stupid.

Do one yourself. Learn to appreciate that people have different OPINIONS.

In MY OPINION it wasn't stupid, by your logic, that makes you wrong and invalid and should progress to you getting lost somewhere?

It's funny the way some people think their rules only work one way.

I had a new phoneline fitted at home a couple of weeks ago. Less than 10 minutes after the engineer had left the phone rang with some random survey company. I think my phone has been unplugged since then :D

(It was cheaper to get the phone, tv and internet than just tv and internet)

I imagine there is a list in every call centre across the country that gets updated with the full contact details of people who act like complete morons.

I invisage you receiving many more calls than before now - Enjoy!

i'm lost how this is harrassing someone at work? if i was the person on the other end i'd probably get a small smile from it, and even if not, i wouldn't think someone is harrasing me. people should lighten up a little more and take silly things like this less seriously. people's replies almost seem bitter to the op. i can appreciate why he did it, even if it didn't acheive anything important, it helped the op feel a little better when people cold call him, kind of like closure, just that little something to help one move on and forget about it.
