Was jesus born on december 25th?

*sigh

NOOOoooo, December 25th is due to a rehashed story of the birth of the son of god, traceable back to the Egyptian god Ra, who was born on the 25th Dec, to a virgin mother, etc and so on....it probably existed before this, but most religions today are roughly based around as far as we know, there ideals.

Basically Jesus and co is the Nth rehash of the same story, <insert chosen god> was born on 25th dec, for millenia , were just aware of the latest story that's fed down the nations throats, and unfortunately a lot of people buy it.

Apparently the 'son' of god is infact the sun, as 25th dec is when the days begin to get longer and the sun doesnt drop any further below the horizon on this date, so infact all this mumbo jumbo is infact sun worshipping, rehashed, except somewhere in translation over 1000's of years, sun was replaced with son, hence giving him a human form.

from what i remember reading Jebus was born around June time and not in december. As previously stated 25th of december is a pagan time for celebrating the mid winter. This date coincides with the reversal of the gradual lengthening of nights and shortening of days.

The Christian festival seems to tie up with the Roman festival of Sol Invictus (Unconquered Sun) which fell on 25th December which was a festival to celebrate the rebirth of the Sun and fell during the celebration of Saturnalia also. Saturnalia was celebrated by week long feasting and celebrations involving the reversal of social norms and practical jokes.

Early Christian writers indicate they believe that Christ was born at the same time as the re-birth of the Sun (Hence the Sol Invictus connection) add to that the Patrician establishment seem to have felt it would be easier to transplant a very very popular festival rather than replace or rival it as a means to get the population to adopt the new state religion hence the Saturnalia connection.

Add to that, that most Northern European cultures have mid-winter festival (stemming from pre-historic traditions) celebrations that in the Romanised world were already partially transplanted by Saturnalia and then Sol Invictus later on that it was quite natural that the tradition of celebrating Christs birth became 25th December.

It was as more a political rather than religious decision.

Well, considering the Gregorian calendar has only been in use since 1582 what do you think?

Who's Jesus?

Your right, 21,22,23,24 it APPEARS to hang on the horizon, it rises on the 25th, hence the 'birth of god' *snigger snigger, damn how did so many people buy this **** for 2000 years ?

The 25th December was first recorded as being a date to "contemplate/observe" the birth of Jesus by the Church in Constantinople. I think it was between 350-400 AD or something.

It was more to do with contemplating his birth and celebrating it in that fashion than it being the actual date. As time went on people have just seen it as his birthday.

Linkys please. Yes there are similaritys. especially around creation and a great flood, but as far as I know nothing as precise as you are making out.
