James Cameron's 'Avatar' - The next gen of cinema

One thing I'm consistently noticing is that everybody is being wowed by the 3d. Can anyone who watched the move in 2D comment on it - can someone give a review excluding the 3d element?

I'm finding it strange that people are rating 3D as the big breakthrough in movie watching, when 3d movies have been around for quite a while.

3D has been around, but not the way it's been done here.

My friend saw it in 2D and said it makes a 5 star film 4 stars.

I was kinda hoping or a scene or two that did have that jump out at the audience 3D thing. The bit at the very start when you saw the droplet of water hovering above his face was really cool for me. Looked like it was right there in front of me!

Firstly, apologies if you've already seen the movie.

I haven't seen the 2D version but this movie is IMO all about the immersion and the 3D technology in use here simply takes it to the next level. The story, as you probably know, is one that's been told countless times before. The characters are cliched stereotypes and the dialogue is nothing to rave about. But it's the experience sharing the main character's sense of wonder in discovering this lush, alien world that really sold the movie for me. The 3D effect is often extremely subtle and infact sometimes easy to miss yet by the end credits I actually felt like the events of the movie had been acted out 20ft in front of me as if part of the most epic stage production ever.

It would be a huge shame to chose to watch in 2D where 3D is readily available. I'm already planning a repeat viewing :D

Just got back from seeing it(in 3d) and thought it was excellent.
Yes there were a few cheesy lines in BUT I didn't go see it for the script.I went to see it for the effects.
And they were amazing. The 3D is quite simply stunning. There were a few bits where it actually looked like something was right in front of you.

well just come back from seeing 3d version.......absalutly stunning...but i got bored and nearly dozed off a few times, was dragged way to much

and thats weird coming from me as i usually love my in depth films

on other note toy story 2 3d advert was awsome! as if im not going to see that haha

Thought it was pretty cool, myself. Went with the daughter and she loved it as well. The 3D added, rather than detracted, from it. Although I was sure I was going to get my eye poked out by a fern at one point.

When i went saturday, we had this parked in front of us!

And he even got up half way through and walked to the toilet!!!

most people who use those mobility things can walk fine just not for long distances.

theres a guy near me whos got one and he can walk find with a walking stick, his only problem is hes got a massive belly.

guess his weight classes him as disabled to our crap goverment

he could have parked it outside the cinema entrance in the corridor and walking in and sat in a seat if he was able to walk the toilet. Absolute no consideration for others around him.

Watched it today, amzing CGI and 3D film was 30 mins too long but the last 30 mins of the film was superb.

I actually preferred the first half, with Jake exploring this new world and creatures...

I found the pacing was great with the time passing by without any bordom. I'm hoping there will be an extended directors cut to add more meat to those bones!

May be a silly question, but will the blu-ray/dvd release work in 3D with glasses? Or is it the projection technology, rather than the filming technology, where the 3D is 'made'?
