Driving in snow

I'm in Wales at the moment. Snowed overnight and roads fine this morning as there are loads of gritters out.

Mountain roads seem more of a challenge when snow is on the hills

Berkshire council take note !

This might be a ridiculously silly question and I could look like a right loleggface but...

Say you go in an empty car park on an icy night and do some handbrake turns and doughnuts, is that ilegal?

My friend was saying it wasn't, but I'm pretty sure it would be as it's not your property

Im quite sure that if you get seen by the police then it would probably be points for dangerous driving :P

You've got to wonder what was going through their heads that led them to simultaneously decide they'd be much better on their asses inches from an out of control car, than inside a big metal box with seatbelts about to crash at 5mph

Drove from Wigan down to Portsmouth and back on Tuesday....

Been all around the country as per usual with work, mostly in the NW where there is plenty of snow. FWD drive van with normal road tires so nothing special but a clue about how to drive helps!

No problems, just the morons who have no idea how to drive that are causing issues either going too slowly (10mph on a gritted road for example) or too quickly.

I propose a "snow license" and only people who have one are allowed out on the roads!

Wow at the fester vid. Imagine trying to get out while the car is spinning 'over' you. What a complete tit. Darwin award in the making.

same thing happened to me yesterday. me and the missus was coming back from the odeon after seeing avatar and some tool was sitting behind me in his suzuki 4x4 flashing his lights and sitting on my bumper despite the fact it had started snowing again and on that stretch of road there was 3 (no joke) cars in ditches. one of them i personally see go off on the way to the cinema. i ended up pulling over and letting him past. suffice to say about five minutes up the road i see said 4x4 in a ditch also.

:D

Hey,

Does anyone recommend using all season tyres on their car? Something like Vredestein Quatracs. Granted we only get a week or two of snowy/icy weather a year but would these tyres degrade dry performance enough to make it not worth the effort for general driving?

What does ABS do if it realises you're speeding up while trying to stop? Not that they had ABS..

No different because ABS doesn't know if you're slowing down or not, it just releases the brake on the (locked) wheel then reapplies it.
