Stolen R26R megane renaultsport

This thread really does speak volumes about this forum, the rather pathetic and snide comments about this chaps stolen car are nothing but rude and unnecessary. It's the same old high horse brigade storming in, making assumptions, insults and picking the story to bits.

That is the ugliest car I have ever seen. Looks like a chav's interpretation of the A Team van.

Would you say the same thing to someone who's just had their daughter kidnapped? "Don't worry mate, she was *** No partially starred swearies *** ugly anyway"

Really nice mate, whether you think it is ugly or not matters not one whit, it's not your car, and it's already been stolen, so you're just being rude for the sake of it.

If i was a mod i'd ban a lot of people around here until they learn some manners.

To Muler, i'm sorry you've had your car stolen, and i hope you either get it back in good condition, or you get a good payout on it.

yeah because you need to own a £10,000 car to be able to comment on modified cars dont you ?

Nope, but calling it ugly and chavved up when it is one of the better high performance hatchbacks of this generation of cars and slating the owner but then hiding what you drive yourself is kind of weak.

An exaggerated comparison would be someone with a 1.2 206 slating someone with a new Nissan GTR as a chav for instance.

If you are going to criticise someone's car in a thread that has nothing to do with "hey look and comment on my car please" and more to do with "help I was burgled and my car got stolen on Christmas day" at least have the Cojones to present your car in comparison to go along with your obnoxiousness.

So what happens if the person criticising turns out to own a brand new M3 or something? Are they then 'allowed' to make negative comments because they have a more expensive car?

Pretty much everyone has their integrity questioned at some point for daring to break convention.

I don't think its that, I think its more than every time somebody new or something new is introduced there is always something a little... iffy. This time it was the R26.R which turned out not to be one, people here just pick up on little details thats all. It also doesn't help that 75% of the time when people question something it DOES turn out to be fake (ie Nissan GT-R guy being the last guy I can think of, oh and that guy buying a 100k company car). This gives the doubters confidence and also reduces the level of trust in other new people. Surely you get this Scuzi as a few years ago you used to be there in amongst it with everyone else :p

If it was a normal R26 and the owner hadn't covered it in R26.R stickers I doubt this thread would have gone the way it did. Then he comes on here and rather than just saying 'Thanks for the support for those of you who have been civil and cheers for those of you who were less than helpful' we get 'its a £20k car you are jealous' when its a £10k car (A 2008 R26.R is a 20k car but a 2006 R26 is a £10k car)

Just... why

I think the other thing is that its a thread where, realistically, nothing can come of it. What are people supposed to do - lets consider human nature for a minute here. We can keep an eye out for the car, which is great and often helps, but as far as posting in the thread goes it either drops to the 4th page with no reply or people discuss its content - and this time its content was a 2006 Megane which was dirty and had the wrong badges on. So some peope say 'its dirty!', some people pick up on the badges and others say 'Its a Megane!'

This forum is no different to others - its only different to one make forums where everyone thinks everything is amazing and disagreeing with anyone else is a bannable offence. I bet if there are other general purpose forums the reaction would be largely the same. I dont know why people think this forum is unique - Pistonheads for example is supposed to have a far more mature audience yet its exactly the same, and this thread would have gone exactly the same over there in the General section. Heck they even have a custard test as the equivilent of the 'bread' thing. It's what people are like, not just this forum. This forum just provides somewhere for people to voice opinions.

Personally badges aside I think the regular R26 is a brilliant car and I hope he gets it back. Then debadges it :p As for the badging I still wonder if it had an effect on the theft - the R26.R is a rare and very sought after car. What if this one was nicked because they thought it was one? I was fooled initially, and so was the OP.

If you equate a car being stolen to someone's daughter being kidnapped, you REALLY need to get out a bit more...

And the car is ugly :p

I think people forget that the foundations of this site are people who buy bits to make their computers quicker so they can game, code or draw quicker. Over time some of their other interests have come to the fore, such as cars, cameras, hi-fi and other stuff, but it's mostly techie and geek stuff. As such, people interested in things like this tend to be very anal about the details, the widgets and the statistics and speak in language that a yoof of today into geek stuff uses and understands, refer to YouTube comments if you need some examples. It's no surprise that they get a little carried away and miss the point completely on many occasions, such as in this thread I suggest but it is the nature of the site, best to rise above it.

I hope you find your car and the scum who stole it, for that is what they are, get a kick in the tuds for their efforts. Ugly thing the Megane but great fun. I put a Pecco twin pipe on my first car 25 years back, while it had hub caps, so I can't complain about aesthetics I suppose.......and it was brown.

Don't be fooled by the rocks that i got, i'm still Housey from the block :D

You really do love trolling don't you?

Can you not think of a better way to come back at him than just accuse of him trolling? I prefer to use fact and opinion to make him look daft, perhaps by pointing out the dynamic competency oft he R26, or how well a regarded hot hatch it is, basically that it doesnt matter if its ugly, as it's bloody good.

Whereas you claim sort of moral highground whilst at the same time adding nothing to the discussion at all. Posts consisting of OMG YOU TROLL are as bad, if not more so, than the silly comments people post in the first place, surely?

Moral highground? He's mentioning the same thing over and over again; what is there to discuss? You've already made comments regarding the car, why would I want to repeat them?

Also he didn't seem to happy at being called a troll in the awards thread, so you'd think he'd make a bit more of an effort to not come across as a ****.

You could have quite easily ignored my post, so if anything you're equally as bad as me.

As I said, what do they drive? If its anything worth less than 50% value of the Megane then I think jealousy has probably got a little to do with it.

What an odd idea...why is the threshold set at 50% out of interest? I could buy some really nice cars for 10k, there is absolutely no way I would be jealous of someone owning a hot hatch costing twice as much.

Yup, because at the end of the day, they get to go home in an M3. However I think you will find people with nice cars dont slate other people with lesser cars, especially if they can tell that whils not as good, it is still a decent car. Its normally the kids in the 10 year old fiesta's who are all "OMG YOU GOT A FERRARI F430 A GALLARDO IZ SO MUCH BETTER IDIOT NOOB CHAV!?!?"

Hence why I asked what he drove.

The ability to have the economic freedom to spend the money, not of the individuals chosen car itself, is the source of the jealousy.

I disagree quite strongly with this, actually, but at the same time I can see your point. Infact I've made remarks alluding to the same thing in the past - how its always a Fiesta driver posting the negative comments in the 'ALL NEW 911 TURBO' thread but I don't think everyone with a less valuable car is jealous.

Take me for example. Sligtly less relevant in this thread because I don't dislike the OP's car but if I was to comment and say I hated it, would I be jealous because my 5 Series is worth less than his car? Of course not - it just isnt my sort of car.

I don't, for example, like the new Volkswagen Golf R. At all. Is this because I am jealous of those who own one, whereas my car is worth less? Well no, of course not. And why do we judge somebodies wealth on the car they drive?

There are as many people on this forum driving expensive cars on finance they can barely afford as there are people driving around in cheaper cars who could, if they wanted, go and buy something more expensive.

Hence why I asked what he drove.

He drives a 1999 BMW 323i SE. We've clashed in the past as I told him it was pointless as it costs as much to run, yet doesnt offer the performance of, a 1999 BMW 328i SE :p

The ability to have the economic freedom to spend the money, not of the individuals chosen car itself, is the source of the jealousy.

This will be the case in some people but as I've said I doubt its the case in most. Some people are just happy enough with what they drive to not need to rush out and replace it as soon as they can with something newer. Which is why I'm not currently in the queue at my local BMW dealer upgrading to an E60 5 Series. Maybe for some of us its different as we did in the first place spend a lot more on our cars only to have them depreciate away to 50p rather than be forced to buy a cheaper car in the first place. However this still doesn't mean MarkDavis is jealous, he's had his 323i for absolutely years and although its worth about £3k tops today I suspect he probably paid about as much for it in the distant past as this Megane is worth today (ie, circa £10k, not sure where the £20k came from).

I thought this.

People must be deluded if they think people are jealous of their 20k Golfs or Civics.

I doubt im going to get screwed by insurance for having DECALS on my car.

Are you sure? Like I said, if it was a done to order job chances are that somebody wanted a R26.R not a R26 that looks sort of like an R26.R to the untrained eye.

I think that there is a possibility that if your car didn't have "R26.R!" plastered on the bodywork it could quite possibly still be sitting on your drive. What's stopping your insurance company for thinking the same thing?
