British man to be exectuted by Chinese

Should execute people here for the same imo.

So if platinum87 said he'd rape your family, wait no it's B&W who threatens to rape mothers platinum is decent enough to just kill (important destination tbh).

Kill your family unless you smuggle the heroin do you get the death sentence?

Sorry but he broke the law so end off. Do the chinese still send the bill for the price off the bullect to his family??

In some countries being gay is punishable by a brutal torture and death.

Is that the same?

Just because something is "law" doesn't make it right.

Tough Fully star out swear words! it's the law I wish they do the same over here with pedos drug pushers. Also they cauld do the same with back Door breakers ; )

Good examples above why no one should be a in position of absolute power... and just how ****** the human race is. We are so far from civilisation.

apparently the Chinese do take into account someone's mental health status when handing out death sentences, it's carried out pretty swiftly too.

contrast this with America's system of not really caring about the person's mental health and then keeping them on death row for 10 years

sometimes we forget who the baddies are

"Her Britannic Majesty's Secretary of State Requests and requires in the Name of Her Majesty all those whom it may concern to allow the bearer to pass freely without let or hindrance, and to afford the bearer such assistance and protection as may be necessary."

Does this carry much weight anymore? Just curious.

To what lengths will the UK go to defend a single solitary citizen?

I think it largely depends on the crime committed and the punishment handed out. If you're abroad, break a local law, get tried and find yourself in prison because of it, then aside from consular advice, I wouldn't expect any cavalry to come to your rescue. Of course, if the trial is deemed unfair for some reason, or the country you're in has decided to lock you away without a fair trial, you're more likely to get some help.

As soon as the death penalty gets involved, then I'd expect intervention.

Latest development is that he doesn't know he's going to die yet, made me cringe a bit if you put yourself in his shoes.

Funny thing is, Mao Zedong inadvertently caused the deaths of 30+million people through two ambitious schemes, 'the Great Leap Forwards' [irony] and the 'Cultural Revolution'. When he died, he was greatly revered and put on display for the biggest mass mourning in the world. Strikes as a bit.. odd.

Well, Mao did found the PRC, but you'll still find a fair few people in the country who think he maybe wasn't all that great - they just don't like to say that too openly, understandably. The official version, according to Deng Xiaoping's government is that Mao was 70% right - the idea being he did more good than harm - but they did have to acknowledge that maybe he made a few mistakes along the way...
