Excuse me? How about the people he had dealings with in Poland - are you discounting their views. Have you actually heard the "pop single" he recorded, completely sure that it would be a global hit and bring peace on earth?

There are better reasons to avoid chinese products - the mass pollution caused by the factories ignoring safe disposal of chemicals to meet our insatiable appetite for ever cheaper products.

Tbh that's quite catchy...but yeh, he's got to be a sandwich short of a picnic to record something like that.

Well then the rest of the world should start building factories and churn out their own products for their own use. Its countries like UK and USA that takes all their stuff over to China, because lets face it, UK and USA arent capable, more so UK of churning out the same amount of things as China can, and supply and demand is going to be always on the short side.

We're perfectly capable of producing the goods we need, what we aren't capable of is producing the goods for similar costs, and the consumer has long decided that cheap is the most important factor for the majority.

I am not whining, merely stating a fact that to avoid upsetting non-Christians the Christmas celebrations were renamed Winter Light Night and I believe this to be wrong.

I personally do not hold the celebrations to be so dear myself but do get angry when things that have been in place for many hundreds of years are changed to avoid upset.

It has been said in this thread that this man has been executed because he contravened China's laws and that is that. What gets me is the we as a country seem to be so much softer when it comes to upsetting people who have come to this country as a choice because life is so bad in their own.

I welcome anyone to this country and have no problems with that but I do strongly believe that we must not give up our identity to please others.

My sympathies do go to the family of Akmal Shaikh.

Shipping it overseas only aids this, as that way we don't have to worry about little Johnny losing his arm in some half arsed factory. Little Chang is well out of sight, and thus out of mind.
 
The chinese usually use political prisoners as involuntary organ donors but I presume the family will get the body back in this case and thats not the motivation.

From the bbc article. Nope he will be burred within 24hrs in china and the family wont know where. :mad: why not just hand him back, he's dead.

Exactly, "mentally ill" my foot, I think I'd try and play the "mentally ill" card as well if I knew the death was looming as well.

What, so you think he recorded the single and acted all weird as a ruse in the runup to his drug running operation?

Are you sure you're not mentally ill?
 
Why should it matter that we worry over this particular case because he had British citizenship? What difference is one life to another no matter which country they are from.

Nobody in the UK gives a rats ass about all the other execuations in China, so why start now? Just because he is British?

I'm as mad as a hatter but I wouldn't take drugs into a country that has a death penalty for doing so!

People in the UK do give a rat's arse about all the other executions in China. If every day the hapless plights of the latest round of probably innocent Chinese to be maimed in our name, were broadcast in to our homes and printed in the newspapers, there would be similar furor. As this man was a British citizen it was enough to spark the media interest which has sparked the people's interest.

I'd sincerely like to think that most people don't think their life, for being British, is inherently worth more than anyone else's.
