British man to be exectuted by Chinese

Sorry, I only spoke for those with a grain of compassion for the sanctity of human life, and not the collection of neanderthals masquerading as intelligent beings. You were excluded.

He is right though. The world is massively overpopulated and if we don't take steps to reduce it, things are going to get very ugly soon. Unfortunately man is proving too stupid to recognise this fact and to take necessary action.

Get off your high horse.
I am never going to get off this horse, if it means stooping as low as saying that we need a world war to exterminate large populations.

The steps we need to take are not to reduce the population, but to empower it. We are more than capable, as a species of beings, of setting things up to take care of everyone.

I don't understand how a mentally ill person and mentally well person that commited the same crime should be treated differently though. I think in certain circumstances, obviously the mentally ill should be given more leniancy

Same way children and adults aren't tried the same way. Obvisuley it depends what the illness is and what they can understand. But they don't always understand the consequences as well as messed up judgement and everything else.

No medical test was done
The trail was almsot certainly unfare
Capital punishment is wrong.

Yes it's their laws, no one is disputing that. What people are discussing is the rights and wrongs of it.

I don't know how else to break this to you, so I'll be my usual blunt self. Your tree-hugging views do not work in the real world. Earth has finite resources, what makes the most sense is to control the population in such a way that it remains manageable and that those finite resources are not overly taxed.

Empowering the population? OMFG TBH.

If it's the law, how can it be right or wrong? Law is reason, free from passion - it's can't be 'wrong', not in the broad sense you mean.

If a case can be proven beyond reasonable doubt, then Capital punishment is not wrong in my view.

My take on this whole thing is that China have treated this whole case shockingly.

Yes there can be no doubt he smuggled drugs, however it seems highly probably that he was mentally unbalanced at the time - and was all the way up to his state-sanctioned murder yesterday. The Chinese clearly knew this - even though they deny it - because they were holding him in a hospital rather than a prison.

His trial lasted all of 30 minutes (wholly inadequate to determine a man's fate) and his appeal was a complete farce - due to him doing all the talking and apparently making no sense whatsoever due to being a bit bonkers.
I mean come on! What high quality judicial system allows the supposedly nutty defendant to be the one to supply the evidence on his own mental health!?!?!? They refused all along to allow him to be assessed by a mental health expert and it seems obvious why - because they knew their conviction would be overturned and they would be made to look fools.

A spokeswoman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Jiang Yu, told a press briefing in Beijing no-one had the right to comment on China's judicial sovereignty.

NO actually Mr Yu EVERYONE has the right to comment on your judicial system - you don't have the rest of the world repressed by your communist army just yet.

China has such a large population that clearly the price of life is cheap there.

I'm really disappointed in the Chinese government for this and feel very sad that a clearly mentally ill person has been killed instead of treated.

Shame on you China - or at the very least Shame on your government and legal system.

Being bipolar does not mean you are unaware of the consequences of your actions.

As i've pointed out several times in this thread - someone who is bi-polar and having a severe manic episode IS NOT aware of the consequences of their actions.

They can lead a perfectly normal life the vast majority of the time, but then suffer a severe episode that leaves them completely delusional and believing they are going to be the saviour of the world through their (obviously totally irrational) actions.

Most of the comments in this thread simply show that most people have pretty much zero understanding of bi-polar and mental illness in general.

You should try living with someone that has it and then see how your opinion changes.

1 less drug smuggler

how comes mental health problems always seem to come into things like this , its a bit like that computer hacker , just another excuse to get let off!

Lol, Britain has really gone down the pan when China boldly gives the fingers in regards Britains request for clemency.

Guess we can see the future now....

Suppose the guy was stupid looking for clemency in an atheist country..... where the concept of mercy is entirely absent...

Being bipolar seems to be a get out of jail free card which you flash when you're caught doing something you shouldn't be, so you can escape the consequences of your actions. I don't buy it.

Religious people do not hold a monopoly on mercy.

People in the UK dont care what Brown has to say, so what makes you think a country like China give a rats ass in what he has to say?! LOL!

even Obama doesnt want to be associated with Brown, theres your answer.

Who knows whether that was the case here? But it doesn't seem like any proper assessment has been done, which would make execution wrong imo.

Again, you simply have no understanding of the illness. I just hope you don't have to ever live with someone you love who suffers with it....

Many hundreds of thousands of lives are wrecked by drugs abuse & the methods they use to obtain money by stealing, mugging etc & yet anyone caught overseas in countries where the death penalty is mandate seems to somehow trigger a waive of sympathy & desperate attempts at leniency.

1+

Three girls from EU got caught in Bolivia trying to smuggle 3 bags full of cocaine. All of a sudden it's poor them and they had no clue what they were doing etc. So all human rights groups are trying to free them so they can come back to the EU and do 1/5 of the prison time in 'hotels' compared.

They knew what they were doing when they went there. If you are stupid enough to smuggle drugs to begin with, why go do it in countries with a death penalty/ worse sentence. It's beyond me.
