most pirated games 2009

Britboy just to get some debate going and we all know about your view on piracy but what are your views on the other aspects raised in this thread mainly how the companys act ?.

You asked earlier Kyle how I knew that you are quite young just from what you wrote ...

Hopefully you've answered your own question ..

You won't believe me now .. but in about 10 years time you'll look back and actually be embarrassed that you used to write stuff like that ... For the moment however, stick with the fairly naff insults .. after all, you're only young once ..

Cool story, Bro! :)

That doesn't surprise me. :)

I didn't think it would :D

that;s strange as the sims 3 sold has sold 5.9 million copies and it was only released in June 09....

selling over 1.4 million in the first week alone

Your list fails.

Double those prices and that's about true for the Netherlands...

There is NO WAY you can get a new game pre-ordered for 20 € here. They are all 45-65€ here on release.

Why not just order from Play.com? More expensive than the UK price but Mass Effect 2 is still only 35 Euros.

That's what you get for trying to remain neutral in WW2!:o

I agree with the following points:

1. The DL figures do not equate to lost downloads
2. Piracy does drive up recomended retail price
3. A reduction in Piracy will not reduce the recomended retail
4. Often gamers DL games before they buy them

Now forgive me if i'm wrong but apart from hacked servers (which i belive are full of cheaters), you need a legit copy of any decent game to play on. I know atleast with CS < 1.6 you needed a legit CD Key to authticate with the auth servers to play. I assume that as this game did not have a single player version that sales were not to bad? Is not the anwser to make better multiplayer games and up the security regarding online CD Key authentication?

My 2P anyways.

Looking at MW2, apparently not. Singleplayer is good but much shorter than before and from what the Yahtzee review said, used the 'dieing from the nuke' bit again thinking it would still have the same effect. Half arsed.

Then theres the multiplayer, copy/paste with some extra gimmicks.

Yet the name 'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2' was apparently enough. I could guarantee you they could release a MW3 as a multiplayer only game, copy/pasted from MW2 with tiny changes and the number of sales would still dwarf indie titles that actually deserve them. It seems IW figured 1 thing out, your average consumer is a ****ing idiot.

Every single one of them?

I am willing to wager that I can find you a case..even if its just 1, it only takes 1, where the person has been "done" for downloading rather than uploading.

Go ahead. You won't be able to.

Note: when someone has gained their copyright-infringing material via bittorent, they are uploading the material and distributing to others at the same time.

The only reason people are prosecuted and fined large amounts, is because of a very shady method of working out how many people the person has uploaded to, and therefore the lost sales the company has suffered. It's pure fiction of course, for reasons mentioned earlier in this thread.

Most definitely! They seem to take joy in "Punishing" those "stupid" enough to grab such material via torrents.

Torrents are great, but they're best used on non-illegal, or "grey" area stuff.

Such as Anime series that aren't licensed in your country, or TV shows.

They can call TV rips piracy all they want, there is absolutely nothing they can do about it though, as for Anime, nothing much is said on that as no one really knows what to do about it.

If i thought it was important enough i would. Especially as i am pretty sure that someone, somewhere has been done for downloading, be it music, games, movies, whatever. At least once.

However its really not worth me taking the time to trawl the web to find the one case of it. Its simply not worth it just to prove a point to a nobody on the internet, so i will humbly decline and use my time elsewhere

I think you missed my point - Putting more effort into the multiplayer side of things may increase rev and limit piracy - esp if you limit the game to dedicated servers.
