Scariest movie you've seen

The Entity as mentioned by fornowagain I find quite scary.

Any horror that is geared around fantasy or monsters there is pretty much no chance of me becoming scared, maybe only a jumpy bit will get me but that is it and the fear is over. Most often I find the scariest films to be ones that *could* be possible and ones that don't stray away into fantasy land.. films that feature spirits/demons. Paranormal Activity did scare me in the dark and alone in a room while watching...

But it is what you perceive as being scary. One persons poo in the pants can be another's laugh!

When i was younger? Alien.

Now? Probably the films like The Grudge/The Ring, the japanese definitely have a really unique take on making the ghosts creepy, just the look and the sounds, definitely unsettling and frightening imo.

See I don't believe that spirits or demons exist, so maybe that's why I didn't find that film scary.

Paranormal Activities.

There is something very primal about the fear of something going bump in the night.

Tbh i think the genuinely scary fillms out there really are the ones that are creepy and lets your imagination connect the dots. Im not scared by stuff like Texas Chainsaw Massacre of Final Destination, its not creepy, shocking yes but not creepy and unsettling.

I was travelling across Australia in Dec 2005 and had a few hours free one afternoon, so decided to go to a cinema as it had aircon. :)

Sadly, without checking what it was about, I went in to watch 'Wolf Creek'. I walked out of the cinema bricking myself and wanted to fly home that day!! :(

[...] And "Threads".
*looks at location*

Well, you would say that!

Should really get round to watching it myself, seeing as I've been living in the city for nearly two decades.

Also +1 for Salem's Lot - the bit in the jail  :weepants: :faint:

Jaws is also worth a mention, even though the shark technology has obviously dated, diminishing the suspension of disbelief somewhat. How many thirtysomethings have carried a lifelong fear of swimming in the sea as a result of this film?

The scariest movie I've seen growing up would probably be "Alien" bearing in mind I was just a youngster (all those years ago) when it came out :p

Also, though not a movie "Threads" deserves a mention simply for the sheer fact that it could have actually happened

Most recently I'd say "Paranormal Activity" was pretty scary.

The Ring and The Grudge are quite easily the most frightening films I have ever seen.

Apparently my brother move all of the televisions in the house as far away from his bedroom as possible after seeing it in the cinema :D

He subsequently made me watch The Ring by myself. In the dark. With the volume on the TV up max, to the point where it is hissing loudly regardless. I dare anybody to relive that experience and not be scared!

Also unlike the many 'this scared me as a kid' comments that are flying around, both scared me as an adult.

Haven't seen anything that has properly scared me since I was around 8 years old. As mentioned before, people seem to get desensitised from horror.
I actually get more nervous playing horror games late at night with lights off than I do watching things.

Try and get a hold of some Asian horror films, they seem to be the most twisted :p
