Xbox360 VS PS3 graphics comparison (round 5)

the graphics on cross platform games are so close and both of really good quality (to match current HD displays) so the minute differences dont really impact upon anyones in game experience to much of an extent.

unfortunately 90% of my mates, work colleagues etc have xbox360...

so the experience i miss is not being able to play with my friends really...and that comes down to the low unit purchase price of the xbox which makes it a decent birthday/xmas present from family, or girlfriend or whatever, whereas a £250 ps3 isnt so attractive.

i love my ps3 but dont like hat xbox is so popular because the online contingent of my friends are on live not psn.

If you want to get technical then again I believe PS3 is actually seperior in its HDMI interface.
X360 is HDMI 1.2 VS PS3 is HDMI 1.3 This is one reason PS3 can support 7.1 Multichannel Audio...

no it isn't, 7.1pcm has been supported over hdmi since way back in 2002 when v1.0 was released.

Also to take note PS3 was one of the first ever HDMI 1.3 devices released.

it wasnt, the fat ps3 was hdmi 1.2 compliant. the only v1.3 feature the original ps3s supported was deep colour, which wasnt all that useful. the ps3 slim is v1.3 compliant.

the 360 are masters of plastic shiny games, ps3 goes for realism and can do the same as the 360 if they really wanted to. GoW graphics are not realistic, just realy shiny.

By shiny I'll assume you mean stylized, it's supposed to be over the top.

I own both and graphically think they're both quite poor in most cases (jaggies, low res textures, blurriness etc. affect both of them), but then I am spoilt by the PC ;)

16 cars 1080p @ 60FPS
Only On Playstation! :D

If they ever actually get around to releasing the damn thing :p

Does Xbox support uncomplressed 7.1 PCM in its games?
First of all it hasnt the storage as your aware and even Resistance 1 on Blu Ray, an early title used over 20GB of data just on its uncompressed audio.

As for FAT PS3 it is still HDMI 1.3
I havnt read anywhere "yet" that has confirmed or not confirmed for 3D features if it is upgradable via firmware or if only the Slim will be compatible.
However 3D was first showcased as CES 2009 which was before "Slim"

At the end of the day the Platform will support the 3D feature, its a benifit and possibly something that could become "huge" in gaming.
1st Gen Xbox didnt support HDMI, people had to upgrade, so if people have to upgrade to "slim" for 3DTV no big problem.
If they can afford a 3DTV they can afford a "slim"

All these 3D talk is nice but don't you need a brand new television to get it? I can't see 3D being of any importance until 2015 at least.

I'm not sure. Something is telling me you don't, as didn't Sky have something up and running with Liverpool games in 3D on a normal TV?

I guess one should look to what's happening in Japan (what IS happening in Japan? :D) as they are always the pioneers of new television tech.

I'm assuming you're talking about GT5 here? Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't that run in 1280x1080? That's not 1080P

Technically it is 1080p as it has 1080 lines of resolution but yes indeed you are correct it is not Full HD. This is no different to how 1st generation plasma and LCD were 1024x768 but classed within the industry as 720p displays.

However 1280x1080 is on a pixel basis and in referring to grafix power still 1.5x more pixels than 720p. Its proof that the PS3 in some situations has achieved a technical advantage in some games thats still double the cars (which are also more detailed) with one and a half times more pixels than any common X360 racing games and lets not forget programmers have had much longer with X360 as well.

Im not picking on X360 here just pointing out technical things.
Before anyone starts I actually own 3 of each console

no, but that has nothing to do with the ps3 lol.

i know and i didnt comment on that.

No it is not. the fat hardware wasnt capable of streaming hd audio codecs (trueHD and DTS MA) which is a requirement of hdmi v1.3 compliancy. It doesnt do it, its not capable of it, therefor it's not a hdmi v1.3 device. As i said, the only 1.3 feature it supports is deep colour which was added on top of the fat's 1.2 support.

But you are quite 'blinded' by the PS3, and see the 'raw' numbers as some form of superiority.

It's clear GT5 is an awesome looking game from everything we have seen/sampled to date, but it's not that good that it is not do-able on another console. Only if PD had put the time/effort in the 360 would we probably know..

1. GT5p and the GT5 demo suffer from bad framerate and tearing, they aren't really solid 60fps performers
2. They use every trick in the book to achieve some of their results, hence why not all tracks have 16 cars, some have much less and rolling starts are so prevalent.
3. They have had an unprecedented amount of time to develop the game.

And really, when you start saying HDMI 1.3 is for '3D' is a bit laughable.
HDMI 1.4, http://www.hdmi.org/manufacturer/hdmi_1_4/index.aspx is for real 3D. The 3D you are talking about is just going to be frame doubled standard 3D that any HDMI is capable of transmitting.

Not meant too personally, but you are sounding like a crazed Fanboy with these over the top technical swooning over the PS3. It's a nice console, but it's not really standing out as the amazing tour de force you are claiming it to be..
