Don't have to watch it then.

David Tennant has defined Doctor Who for my generation. Spectacular performance by him and Cribbins.

I really hope he comes back for a special or what not in a few years time.

Fantastic episode IMO.

I did when that awful whats her name came into it.

Tate..Talk about miscasting:mad:

Eccleston was better than Tennant imo.

Tate I agree wasn't a great casting choice. However in this episode, in her little bits, was good. Mainly as she had no chance to make a cheap joke.

And I disagree. Eccleston was good but Tennant was better, if you ask anyone over 10 they will all say Tennant not Eccleston ;)

AND Tennant knew he was going to be taking over from him even before the first episode of the relaunch occurred, so even the writers didn't think he was right for the job :p

Piper was the best assistant tho.

On 30 March 2005, the BBC released a statement, ostensibly from Eccleston, saying that he had decided to leave the role after just one series, because he feared becoming typecast. On 4 April, the BBC revealed that Eccleston's "statement" was falsely attributed and released without his consent. The BBC admitted that they had broken an agreement made in January not to disclose publicly that he only intended to do one series. The statement had been made after journalists made queries to the press office.[8]

I used to be a mad Dr Who fan back in the days of Tom Baker/ It then went downhill in my view with Peter Davidson, etc. Part of this may be that I got older of course. I've watched a few of the Eccleston and Tennant shows and they are both great. Eccleston revived the series and Tennant has made it shine (although some of the stories are very poor).

Sadly I think with the latest actor it may be going back to the Davidson/Colin baker/McCoy days and be aimed at a younger audience.

Oh and this Christmas special was especially pants. There was so much potential in the storyline and it was thrown away.

My favourite doctors:

Tennant
Tom Baker
Eccleston

(and years ago I never thought I'd see a better doctor than T Baker).

@ Demoniser, er star trek was on at 6pm on bbc2. Not sure why you think it was on at later times.

I wasn't specifically thinking about UK air times tbh. I was more thinking of the USA where sci fi shows are often prior to syndication on at 8/9 o'clock to target a more adult audience.

Some things that annoyed me-

They never tied up the loose end about the Doctor having met the lady (can't remember her name) from the Library as she said that she meets him in the future and he gives her a sonic screwdriver. She seemed to remember him as David Tennent, so this makes no sense.

Think you need to re-watch those episodes. Riversong many times says that Tennant isn't the Doctor she knew, that she sent the message for help to the wrong time and that he hasn't actually met her yet but will.

He's right, she did recognise him but said he looked young. However, those sort of things are just unavoidable with a show like Doctor Who where the actor changes.

Well there we have it, the universe, the world and all humanity are safe and we can rest again until spring. Doctor that was another fine mess even with 007, the Lord President of the Time Lords, his magic glove and millions of Masters.

The Ood knew, his family knew, he knew, the TV viewing public knew and the neighbour’s dog knew that the doctor would regenerate. What did the regeneration say, “Argh, I’m a girl!”

What a shocker that would be, a female Dr Who, but of course the BBC don’t have the balls to do it. So is the new Dr Who on acid, all will be revealed!

It'll be funny as hell when/if the new highschool doctor meets up with his clone (hot) daughter in a future episode given that he was her 'father' to some extent. She'll be like his sister now!

Such a shame, it was ok but the storyline could have been made much better. :(

What I don't understand is the 10 regenerations limit. I assume that was why there was a big to do about him dying as he thought it was the end, yet it wasn't... Hopefully that's cleared up in the first few episodes of the new series!

As for the next series, it looks good, and maybe even aimed at a slightly older person, however you could make an average day with me look interesting with some short cut scenes and dramatic music so...

IIRC in the Cannon a timelord normally has 10 regenerations, which is why he thought it was the end.
However there have been ways to get more, usually via the high council as a reward for services to them (the limit was some sort of population control from what I understand).

The Master however has spent much of the last few stories with him in them, trying to overcome that limit by various means.

My guess is it'll be explained as being something to do with the fact that he is the last (or one of the last) Timelords so the limit not applying.

It's 12 limit. ;)

I generally agree that the episode was rubbish. The Time Lord arc had a lot of potential and alas it was chewed up and spat out in 30 minutes. Hopefully they will make another showing in the next series.

I think it would have been much better to have the timelords survive and 'be out there' in some form as a threat then locked back inside the time war.

After watching Doctor Who Confidential after the episode it really seems like they wanted to close the book on the 10th Doctors Chapter so i'd imagine that was a factor in seemingly closing the book on the timelord plot arc so quickly and swiftly.

Apparently Moffat is writing 6 episodes of what will be a 13 episode season i'd think so thats good news.
