Why is halo good?

There's a great quote from an AI programming book I feel like is worth copy/pasting here:

"The designers of the AI for Halo, for instance, discovered their playtesters could be fooled into thinking the AI were more intelligent simply by increasing the number of hit points required to kill them.

For one test session they allowed the agents to die really easily (low hit points); the result was that 36 percent of the testers thought the AI was too easy and 8 percent thought the AI were very intelligent.

For the next test the agents were made harder to kill (higher hit points). After just this small change 0 percent of the testers thought the AI was too easy and 43 percent thought the AI was very intelligent!"

Can't say I've ever though that the AI was "more intelligent" just because it took longer to kill them?! what kind of retards play tested this game?

I played a bit of 1&2 on my mates xbox.Thought it was ok.Got 3 for my 360.Thought it was boring.Couldn't even bother to finish it.

One possible reason is that the longer a fight lasts the more you get to see the A.I.? If you run into a room and one shot something in the head then obviously you're not seeing much A.I. But if you have a pitched battle with both sides taking cover, throwing grenades and the like then you get to see the A.I. coming out more?

No it just forces yourself to be more intelligent instead of going in guns blazing, not the AI. That's how I feel anyway. On legendary the enemy always used to stand out in the open on 1 and 2, can't recall 3 much anymore.

really? I always remember the enemies generally diving out the way and taking cover, side stepping your shots also. Obviously the flood were different as they were mindless to a point and more parasitic. But the covenant always seemed pretty tactical, im not saying they were the fear AI good, but they definately didnt just stand there. Unless of course they didnt see you coming

I enjoy the extended universe of the books, it's an interesting story.

The games are good though more of a laugh in Co-op/MP with friends

Played all three + ODST, I think if your playing this game on your own its barely just averge but when in co-op and in a party playing mp it really is as good as people say but def would not reccomend it to some one if they asked i want an amazing sp shooter

Halo 3 was great when when playing with friends online, had immense fun playing infection on Sandtrap with friends , everyone got warthogs/mongoose/ghosts and the infected were super fast with mavity hammers. Brilliant!

:D:D:p

They did for like a second I suppose but you're right it wassn't quite FEAR like or (I may get flames) Condemned. :p Only the elites moved out the way but the rest just sat there really, suppose they were designed to do that to an extent...

Used to play a lot of Halo 2 online on the PC which was fun for a while, however i think the single player is a bit pants

All the Halo games have had fantastic co-op support. Playing a game through the campaign mode with a friend is so much better than going it alone. I remember trying to take on the flood on my own at first and it was tough, but so much easier when my friend joined up. From there on I've only ever played the Halo games through with him. Same with Gears of War 1 and 2. I waited until he bought them before playing through the campaign. PC games need to focus on this aspect a lot more. CoD MW2 with a co-op campaign would be epic.

Killzone2/GOW1 or 2 i think all three have a much much more enjoyable campaign sp wise than halo 3 but it is personal preference.
haha, good, I thought you were going to say something like MW2 :)

I think in al honesty the best way to describe Halo 3 would be to say it's a very thorough multiplayer experience. Campaign wise it's not got much punch anymore, not many games do for me these days.
