Heavy Rain confirmed for 26th Feb

I've got no 360 anymore, only a PS3 Slim which can't play PS2 games so a console version is out of the question. :(

How difficult is it to get the PC version running on say, Vista 64bit?

This game was one of the reasons that pushed me to buy a PS3 slim in the first place, so cannot wait to play this game. If this game fails to live up to how good I expect/want it to be it'll probably be one of the biggest computer game letdowns for me. Also my birthday is 3 days before it comes out so getting the special edition for nowt, bonus :D

Looks good.. a little worried about use of QTE's though.

It worked perfectly fine in Fahrenheit. Keep in mind this is an 'interactive movie' not a typical game as such, so because of this your level of interaction is relatively limited, you can only tell characters to get things right or wrong in action sections. Picture it more as a more interactive Broken Sword and you'll get what i mean.

Yeah I see what your saying, I just think theres better ways to go about it that QTE's though. Having button prompts during parts of the story breaks the immersion some what in my opinion. Don't get me wrong it will certainly be a good game... just wondering if its got what it takes to be a great game!

I take it by what you're saying that you never played Fahrenheit? If i'm right then i'll just say that the button prompts actually add to the suspense in many of the action scenes. They did it in a clever way that you entered the button prompt just before the action, so you'd still have to be as quick as possible, but you still got to watch the result play out in full.

Also, you don't always want to get it right, so this kinda diverts your attention away from the fact your mashing buttons as you're often thinking about the impact your success/failure in a certain action will affect the game.

For example in Fahrenheit, you have a section where you control both a police officer and a fugitive in the same scene. In order to get the best out of the story you need to make sure both do just about right in interrogation/question answering in order to keep the police on the trail, but not get the fugitive caught too early.

I guess what i'm trying to say is, if it's as good as Fahrenheit, the QTEs will be the last thing on your mind.

I don't think Heavy Rain would work without QTEs though.

They're in there to make you have to rush you're reactions to an event that's got multiple outcomes, that you don't know.

e.g. Someone's shooting at you, do you shoot back or run? You've only got a few seconds to make the decision. If you don't make one you could end up in even more trouble. :)

It's less like QTEs in other games where if you fail you just redo it until you pass, in Heavy Rain, the outcome is going to have a major effect. :)

Also, this is my most antisipaited game for a long long long time. :) Can't wait.

It doesnt break the immersion, its not like QTE's in anything previous. It's done well, Fahrenheit was one of my favourite games last gen, and the QTEs in that were a constant, but thats how the game works and it does work.

example: you're standing in a room, you have the option to press R2 for a split second, if you hit it you hide in a bathroom stall, miss it and someone walks in and finds you. You have the chance to hit X, You miss it you take a punch to the face, hit it you dodge

i beg to differ :p

The difference with Heavy Rain is that now the motions are "intelligent" and more subtle quasi QTE. In fahrenheit it was blunt and in your face on the middle of the screen. Like playing a slightly more sophisticated version of Dragons Lair.

Detracted from the immersion because you arent looking at the action as such you are looking at the flashing buttons on the screen.

From what ive seen of Heavy Rain its a massive improvement! :)

Heavy Rain QTE (context and logic sensitive)

If those beeping things happen on Fahrenheit every time you have to fight someone then I don't think I'd pay money for that. How infuriating I had to pause the youtube video about 20 seconds into the fight.

I've yet to hear anything to the contrary that it's nothing more than a glorified graphics showcase wrapped around a bunch of quicktime events. I can hardly say all the gameplay trailers thrilled me.

That's what Alan Wake looks like to me too.

Haven't seen anything of this yet. Will need to Youtube it.

Its pretty simple I guess. As a fan of shenmue & Fahrenheit, and as someone who actually likes QTE.

This game is gonna be great for me.

If you are not a fan of Shenmue, Fahrenheit and have a closed mind about how QTE can be used, I'd avoid the game.

Personally to me, Fahrenheit and Heavy rain are the new Broken sword games. Animation replaced by cinematic. Point and click replaced by QTE.

Give yourselves a bloody slap you mugs. Look at you. Quicktime events?

How about you step back and realize for once that other people may have interests that differ from your own? Fahrenheit was an utterly brilliant game (possibly aside from the last 1/4 which was just average) and it was far more QTE based than this looks to be. The characters, storyline and voice acting were all excellent, just because its gameplay mechanics don't adhere to what you consider good we're all mugs? Yeah right. I don't see how it's a bad thing to have high hopes for the sequel to one of my favourite games tbh.
