Help Me Choose - iPhone 3GS or Blackberry 9700

I think they do but not 110% sure on that.

Battery life on the 9700 is superb...even with hard useage i get a good full days use out of it ie sending texts/emails, making phone calls, sending and receiving messages on BBM etc etc and even playing word mole or brickbreaker for a good hr or so. But saying that soon as i come home i just drop it into the sexy BB charging pod...a definite accessory as it makes your BB act like a bedside clock.

Good to hear, battery life is quite important for me, the E71 has good battery life but the 3GS not so good!

Can you use push e-mails with Google apps premier e-mail account?

^^ if you have a google account you can use Microsoft exchange to grab the emails so you get them as soon as somebody sends them.

I was wondering if to get a blackberry or the iphone 3gs, the iphone is such a brill phone and is what i ended up going with, If you get bored you can download apps that are addictive some free some cost, you can use im+ to sign into msn twitter facebook etc and make it so you are signed in 24/7.. But i sopose it depends on you, personally I would go with iphone all the way.

Best to ask them as it may not include BIS aka blackberry internet service which gives you push email and BBM access.

It does say it's blackberry panther, so I would assume it's not the standard panther and it would include BBM and push email. I'll check it though, just to be sure.

Oh and is the BB Bold 9700 any good as a media player, and is the position of the 3.5 mm jack annoying in a pocket?

hold on, I saw a deal on mobiles.co.uk and they said I would get an unlimited data plan for the BB Bold 9700. Does that included push email, BB messenger and internet browsing?

Yeah, but don't buy it from them. I made that mistake about a month ago now and I'm waiting for my 2nd replacement 9700 from them now. It's been such a hassle.

When my replacement arrives I'll be flogging it to get a 3GS now as I've had such bad luck with the build quality of the BB. Shame really as I really feel the BB is a better phone to live with the the iPhone :-( I've just gone off the BB due to my experiences this last couple of weeks.

If its a blackberry panther tariff then yes it will include push email and BBM.

Yes its a competent media player...i have an ipod touch which is now gathering dust in my drawer as the media capabilities on both my 9700 and Storm2 are just as good if not better than the ipod touch...which is basically the same as the iphone but without the phone part.

I dont find the 3.5mm jack annoying ie the position of it...although for some it can or could be a problem.

By the way id look around before buying from mobiles.co.uk...havent heard many if any good things about them. Id probably have a look at the network first and see what they offer you direct rather than go through 3rd party retailers etc.

JKD the early batches of the 9700 has some QC issues...i went through 3 of them before my 4th one was better built but it wasnt that bad that it made me want to jump to the iphone...but good luck with the iphone, i think u will find yourself wanting the BB within a matter of time.

That happened to me with my Samsung Jet, but I'm getting around it, because if I sell it, I will be making a loss. It is really irritating. Although I didn't send it off to them, I went to their sister company Carphone Warehouse and got it replaced there. Now I'm on my 3rd Jet. :(

What kind of issues were you having?

oh, can you download a msn app, instead of using BBM, without having to get the email?

There is a stand alone MSN/Yahoo/Gtalk messenger application.

I had some light leakage from the sides of the screen...the trackpad was wobbly and the sides of the casing flexed a bit too much.

The one i have now isnt perfect by any means but the light leakage is minimal and the trackpad sits to the left but honestly it doesnt deter from what the phone can do...still an awesome device...best ive ever used.

Oh good, so I can put any non blackberry sim card that is compatible with the device and use MSN. Just no push email, and BBM.

What does BBM do, is it contacts who have a blackberry or all your contacts put together? Is it any different from MSN?

I dont think a non bb sim card will work as it will use the BIS to access your MSN or any other IM programs.

BBM is like messenger but its always on as long as you have a data connection...you can turn off the data connection if u like but it will turn off push email and any other apps that use data etc. And BBM is only between other BB's, no other device has access to its internal messaging system.

Click the link in my sig for all things blackberry related:).

im also on orange, and looking to upgrade

never really thought about a BB before but im almost sure to go for one now

never liked the idea of touch screen.

just waiting for them to come back in to stock

MSN and other chat applications (downloaded from the app store) will not work without BIS added to your tariff.

You can still use web messenger (ebuddy) without a Blackberry account.

They rang me the other day, to tell me that they are not in stock at the moment. Gutting. I now have to wait.
They have offered me 1200mins Unlimited Txts Unlimited Internet Blackberry bundle and 20 MMS for 32quid a month. I thought yes to that one. Due to the wait though I would like to get a Mem card and BT headset with it which I'll try and wangle.

I'm in a similar situation, my contract is up in 7 weeks and I'm checking the options. Love the iPhone but not the price, but BlackBerry is the new cool I reckon. Saw a friends 9700 and thought it was great.

Do you need the BIS to access the internet over 3G? Do you need BIS to get push email from an IMAP server (I don't really want a BB email address)? Does having BIS give you a certain data allowance or is that a seperate thing depending on network/plan?

Basically, what does BIS offer you with a Blackberry that you don't already get with a data plan on another device?

Finally managed to get in to Phones 4 U today and managed to pick up a brand new 9700, on Orange, without the huge Orange branding on the bottom. Loving it so far, really looks like a professinal, well put together piece of kit

However just out-of-the-box you can only set up BlackBerry Internet Service email accounts on the Bold. This means that without a proper Blackberry service plan, the handset is just a plain no-email device since you need to have that before you go setting up any other email accounts.

Shame, looks like the BIS is almost like a software token to activate the features on your phone. Off to hunt for tariffs then.

Yep you need BIS which usually is an extra £5 on top...although some providers might give it free of charge depending on what tariff you choose.
