borderlands worth a shot?

for £12 its good

my problem with it is the combat is basically click n shoot. theres no variety and thats why it gets boring. and as for the bazillion guns thing... theres only really 15-20 different guns

but its very very good on the first playthrough so make sure you play it multiplayer to get most longevity, fun out of it

I DID play it for quite a long time. I maxed out one character at level 50.

The only thing that kept me playing was the weapons really. I wanted to find that next weapon better than the ones I was using. Although towards the end my only problem was running out of ammo. No enemies were really that hard if you were the right level. You were either the perfect level and they were easily wasted, or you were 1 or 2 off and you had NO chance. I remember when I installed Zombie Island, I literally could spend all ammo with all my guns and couldn't even get past the first set of zombies without them re spawning again. Went off, came back a few levels later and pawned.

Like any other game with RPG elements or an RPG, it was full of the boring side quests forcing you to go back to the same place over, and over again. Pick up 4 gun parts, pick up some tinned food. Yawn! Often with useless rewards and small amount of experience. Useful at the beginning, but after about 40 levels I maxed the money counter at $9,999.999...

I did enjoy the game though, there is nothing better than getting a new weapon. Although eventually that novelty wears off and if you don't get something good again you become bored. Basically the entertainment factor is based on the principle of "The grass is greener on the other side". Always a better gun to find. Once you reach level 50 though, it's pointless. They shouldn't have capped the level.

I tried making a new character and was bored after about 1 hour of collecting pea shooters and failing at the smallest of enemies after wading my way through the game nearly twice with a well tooled up character, I wasn't interested in becoming a wasteland peasant again to just to experience a new set of skills.

The biggest problem with the game is the Ammo Bug. Any skills or class modifiers you are using to increase your ammo is forgotten about everything you pause, view the inventory or load a saved game or get out of a vehicle. Forcing you to reload. Insanely annoying.

I've been playing Borderlands excessively recently. It can be quite repetitive, but it's super fun playing with a group of friends, and I found the single player is very enjoyable too.

Despite it's shortcomings it is still a very good game.

Its pants, brother brought it round after he got bored with it, gave it a couple of hours and couldnt be doing with it.

Don't listen to anyone who says "brought" when they mean "bought".

I've found borderlands to be great, really fun game, I play with 2 other friends regularly, completed it last week, been playing through the DLCs the last few days.

He did mean brought

haha, wrong in that occasion kyle, but yes I agree, I can't stand it when people say "I brought it from a shop". It's BOUGHT damn it! :D

It's basically Diablo/Torchlight in FPS with (only) guns. The main issue is that the class side of things really only works in multiplayer (eg the melee beserker, stealther siren, support soldier and well a sniper) which has to be played to be appreciated. If you can get a group of people together it really makes for an enjoyable fortnight's worth of evening gaming as it banter and so hides some of the flaws (travel times, clunky interface and first playthrough difficulty)

The SP side is okay but tends to be bit slower due to the amount of travel - it's a bit like Fallout except without the customisation or depth.

It's all about the guns/items/loot, and there's not a great deal of depth/story/character interaction. However I'm finding it great fun (singleplayer). :D

Tbh, that's what i thought of Fallout 3, this game isn't for me then.

Wow. First person I've heard of not liking Fallout 3! It's probably one of the best games I've ever played. I think I played more hours on that than I did on San Andreas.

Finished this game months ago and im still playing it daily, great fun playing online with friends and has replaced TF2 for me.
Superb game in my opinion. Zombie dlc is also very good - lovely and atmospheric :D
