Tesco to dominate everything and the world?

When they finally get round to starting their bank, they will be untouchable, to quote the BBC "they have the reputation other banks would kill for".

Just read they are spending their most money in China, where some outlets even sell/rent flats.

So how long until everything you could ever want or need is sold by Tesco, and what if there is no other wholesaler? Does the idea of only having one passage of which to buy everything worry you, or excite you?

Personally i like Tesco, and can't wait to see what saving accounts and current accounts they will be competitively marketing. Tesco imo have a better world domination than Google, as Tesco is irl.

Urgh Tesco.

They are poor at best, never had good customer service and their fresh produce is very, very average.

Split my shopping between Asda and Lidl, any fresh produce I dont get from the butchers or a proper greengrocers I get from Lidl as the quality (at least in my experience) is always fantastic.

Lidl has the most naff produce of all time from what I've seen

I shop at ASDA as it's walking distance from my flat, it's quite a poor one. Good for the normal stuff, but you can't get more specalist items in it - because it's in a poor area. Have to go to the other side of the city to get my game meat, nice oils & pasta and such like!

I do wish that ASDA brought in a loyalty program though, Clubcard points are fantastic - but overall I find ASDA cheaper anyway.

Have you actually been there or you just quoting an ignorant "lulz cheap" view that many British, and I must admit I myself did at first, people have by default?

Went there on a friends recomendation, tried the stuff that they do and loved it. Keep finding random little things that they sell that are amazing. Especially the Jaffa Cakes! OM NOM!!! :D

I will admit to doing my main shop in Asda but the majority of my fresh and certain bits and peices I always get from Lidl.

Have to agree ,use to use it when I was very poor but its not even cheap anymore ,you can tell because all the poor trash scum with screaming kids have moved onto the big supermarkets .

Last time I visited a few months ago the broccoli was vac-packed with greenfly walked out and doubt I will return .

Shame green grocers have died out so I would never have to use a supermarket again. We certainly don't buy their meat anyway.

Lol, bit of ignorant snobbery here? Are you aware that Tesco get their meat from McIntosh farms in scotland the same as you would get in your local highstreet butcher? Their lamb is west country too. I think you should ask you butcher, the next time you're not buying meat from Tesco, from where they source their beef. ;)

Well I cant complain about the Mighty T as they pay my wages :p

Have to admit from a personal point of view the staff offers / discounts given are pretty good, though I can see where others are coming from re bullying tactics etc etc :(

Tesco is rubbish after 10pm ,no customer service ,so if you get over charged at the till they tell you to come back during the day

Also very few staff speak English at night .

My Tesco is fine after 10pm and during the night when I've went. Staff really helpful, stock on shelves, etc.

Is your Test one the larger one (Extra) or a standard one?

Revenue ▲£59.4 billion (Year ending 28 February 2009)

That's lots of monies!

A lot of people here have commented on the quality of the food, especially the fresh produce at Tesco's. Personally I use a supermarket to buy branded stuff and then get all my fresh meat and bread from a bakers and a butchers. I've had some very nice steaks from Sainsbury's and Tesco's before, but I always find the butchers has a better selection. I certainly don't have any hate for Tesco's like some of the snobs here!

used to buy from tescos, the quality of the food is poor now buy at waitrose.

As I stated earlier we supply both supermarkets with soft fruit and we pack the best stuff for tesco and the rest for waitrose as the qc standard at tesco is much higher, though waitrose pay us more

You're saying people shop at Tesco and then prices in independents go up and that explains why people shop at Tesco? In this case the chicken came before the egg, they shopped at Tesco first and stopped spending in the independents. Why?

Because they want to pay less for goods.
They undercut the local stores until they're out of business, which only they can afford to do, and then put their prices up when they're the only option.

So you get your Tescos, crap produce, and the local suppliers cant afford to compete.
