Sapphire 5970 - Delivered

yeah have you tried stock cpu setting and stock gpu setting no overclocks at all try that first thnk your maybe jumping the gun or are not to impressed with the improvements over your old card and are having regrets

@Hyper
If your refuring to the gfx card being overclocked, i havent touched it. Its factory overclocked.
Or if you mean my i7 im currently running it at 3.6ghz with a good vcore that is 100% prime stable.

just because something is apparently 100% prime stable you'll never know unless you try i wouldn't call prime stable unless u can hit the 24 hour mark

I think i will try all these stock setting configs tomorrow. And i think you are right Jimmy, i might be jumping the gun here. Thank you for saying so.

I need to chillax slightly lol.

I did head over to the ATI forums and a user asked me after i stated that i had a 1000w psu:
"1000 Watts is nice but is your PSU lane providing enough amperage for the 5970. If you haven't already I suggest giving the 6 pin and 8 pin plugs each their own lane."

Now i have the '1000W Coolermaster Real Power Pro Modular' but i dont no much about psu's. rails, lanes... not 100%

Well, that model coolermaster psu has 6x12v rails at 18amps each, sometimes components are very picky about amps and stuff like that, i dont know enough about it to really give advise on it anymore than that

I used to get that flash flicker in cs:s when a flash bang went off. It's only reading this thread that it made it occur to me that it was fixed in a driver update.

Try a different driver other than the hotfix would be my advice. I was just using 9.12 on the 4870X2 before I stuck my 260gxt back in.

from working out that the 5970 uses 430 watts at full load under furmark that results in around 36amps on the 12volt rail
there are two sets of green and blue inputs on the PSU they are 28Amps each
so i suggest you plug the 8 pin into the top blue slot and the 6 pin into the bottom green slot thus dividing the load between the 2 rails.

if i made that sound complex please let me know and i will try simplify it for you

it actually has 4x 18 amp rails and 2x 28 amp rails

You have enough amps ... you can do 5970 Crossfire with that PSU!

Make sure that the 8pin is using the 28A line (I assume that the PSU forces this?).

fail you notice the error on the psu as sealed STICK was removed lost or damaged

shouldn't it say sticker lol

Woah, take a chill pill, how do you know what model psu the OP has ?

What, you never seen a spelling mistake before ? I dont see your point.

You may notice i said random pic of the net, forgive me for not putting in a disclaimer.

Well i can adjust the fan speed yes. but is takes ages for the fan to respone, not instant 0-100 like the old 4870x2 i had.

@Rave

Yea i like it. But I'm having issues with the drivers sadly.

I'm getting freezes that lock my comp up totally and require a forced reboot. I'm getting a flickering section of my monitor.
CoD:MW2 has some issues too:

I think its just hte drivers that are dodgy. Im running the 9.12 + hotfix

I get stuttering and crashes in Dirt2 - but other than that works fine. I put it down to drivers and will wait a while.

I took a picture of my PSU connections.

Blue is 8pin and green is 6pin. both go to the 5970

Check the flickering i get:

Don't know if it'll help, but while I had prime stable @ 3.5ghz, MW2 was pretty unhappy (insta reboot) until I notched cpu vcore up a bit more - could be the extra gpu power draw was drooping other rails a bit.

(no other games have done it on the old vcore though)

Just to echo what Echo said (hurr) your new instability is probably as a result of the graphics card drawing a lot more power than your old one did, which in turn is messing with how much stable power the rest of your system gets (CPU, memory, etc) and is messing up your overclock.

Have you tried running Prime since you installed the graphics card?

Could this be my problem in Dirt 2? I have an 850W PSU and quite a lot running off it now. Perhaps it is approaching the time where I need 1200W :D. I did have the same problem without the overclock though.
