Finally received my long awaited SSD drives today. :)

Never set up RAID before but had a look in the mobo manual and it was pretty straight fwd. Both drives together in RAID-0 gives you 74.4GB, more then enough for a Win 7 installation with some games and programs.

I have only just installed Win 7 ultimate 64. I have rebooted afew times and I haven't installed much yet but I have to say the difference is instantly noticeable. Windows boots onto desktop and is ready to use in almost an instant. :D

One thing though, I took out my 2x 1TB storage drives for now while I installed and set this lot up, and I have still to connect that up but I noticed this in the mobo manual...

Due to chipset limitation, when set any of SATA ports to RAID mode, all SATA ports run at RAID mode together

Is it likely I'll have a problem when I install my 2x 1TB storage drives?

From 5.3 to 7.9 for the hdd.

I installed mine a couple of days ago and everything went fine, like you. My Sammy f3 is now my drive D so i cant see why you would have a problem if you put yours back in. I guess coz you've got 2 drives these will show up as D & E

Below are the speeds i am getting, have you run any benchmarks at all?

Nope, link to that benchmark you ran pls?

Google CrystalDiskMark 2.2. This seems to be the software of choice on these forums. Its really straight forward to run and install, just copy the setting in my screeny (i don't actually think you need to change any of the default settings).

Nice :) Good luck with your drives, i'm sure they'll be fine.

Just tried installing 1 of the 2 storage drives but it's not having it. When its plugged in, windows won't even boot. It says bootable drive cannot be found.

Just done a quick google search and found this...

personA:

The motherboard manual says "Due to chipset limitation, when set any of SATA ports to RAID mode, all SATA ports run at RAID mode together."

My question is, is there a workaround on this so i can add another internal drive (non-RAID) to my system?

personB:

I have this same MB that I am building right now.

If memory serves, there is a single sata port that is on the Jmicron SATA/PATA controller (not part of the raid ports) that should be usable for your storage drive. I think its the black one.

personA:

it worked! thank you!

personC:

But the Jmicron port is supposed to be the e-sata port. So if you want to keep that one free for front pannel plugin for instance, is there any way to still build a configuration with say:
- 1xHD as system drive, bootable, non-RAID
- 2xHD storage, in RAID1 for inst

Can it not simply work like that? even if you don't configure the sole system drive in a RAID? The RAID controller should be able to handle single drives no?
When I tried (configured my disks in RAID after having installed winxp 32) POST told me that a bootable drive could not be found (even after checking the boot sequence in the BIOS).

So guys, how can I get both my storage drives connected up!???

What exactly is the issue here mate???

Are you saying your board doesn't allow you to connect any non RAID'ed drives into the ICH SATA ports??

This doesn't sound right to me, my UD5 has the ICH10R, and I've got the RAID'ed Kingstons fitted, plus another 2 non RAID HDD's, and I've had no problems with the drives not being recognized.

My board also has a Marvel controller that gives me another 4 SATA ports, but if I try to connect a hard drive to these slots they don't get detected when I'm using RAID on the Intel controlled ports, the only thing that seems to work on the Marvel ports is optical drives.

::edit::

I take it you're liking the SSD's though?? :)

I am indeed. Normally with an upgrade you rarely notice a difference except in figures when running benchmarks. With these the difference is instantly noticeable though. I would definately recommend the SSD route to anyone! :)

Regarding the problem I am having... I tried plugging my HDD into the other sata ports but windows doesn't boot when I do. It's definately regarding the 'chipset limitation' that I mentioned above which is in the manual. Which sata port should I be using???

Connect all your drives and look in the bios and see if the boot prioty is set to the SSD sometimes when you install new drives the bios changes the boot order and try to boot fom a unbootable drive. The manual is slightly misleading when you enable raid the south bridge is running in raid mode not the drives unless you add them to a array when are as a single drive they are essentially running as ACHI drives.

The motherboard manual says "Due to chipset limitation, when set any of SATA ports to RAID mode, all SATA ports run at RAID mode together."

all that means is that the ports are running in the raid mode, it does not mean that drives need to run in raid array (0,1,5 etc..) mode, all the drives will be accessible from the raid rom (control-c or whatever you need to access / initialise raid devices)

think about it, you wouldnt be able to connect a sata dvd drive if you think the above was the case!

the drives should not show up in bios under hard drives section but all devices connected will show up in the raid rom section (lol the word is out of my head)

make sure the kingston is selected as the bootable device in bios / raid rom <--(lol you know what i mean)

Nice one, gonna try it when I get home from work.

Maddness, are you running 2 of these in Raid? You sold one recently, what did you upgrade too???

Ok, I have managed to get both drives to show up now in the bios and also during boot up. However, in windows only 1 of the drives is showing.

How do I get the other one to show? It's definately working, it's definately connected ok it shows the drive clearly during boot up but in windows there is only 1 drive there!

Again... HELP!

The drive is partitioned and formated right?

It was previously when I first installed it yes. It is now full of data therefore I wouldn't want to format it again.

When I right click 'Computer', and go to 'Manage', then to 'Disk Management', it does not show the second drive there, only the 1 storage drive. Yet when windows boots up, it does show both drives.

I have tried swapping the cables, tried using different SATA ports, but only 1 of the storage drives appears.

you hav'nt added the drives into a RAID array have you?

How do you mean? I don't think I have, well I hven't intentionally anyway.

I removed both storage drives first, and installed only the 2 SSD drives. I set up the RAID-0 and installed Win 7. All went good.

I have now re-installed my old 2 storage drives, by plugging them into the SATA ports on the motherboard as normal. When Win 7 boots up it shows that both drives are there. However, in Windows only 1 drive is showing up.

Could I have added them to the RAID array this way?

no you can only add them to an array in the RAID bios, go into the RAID bios and make sure you only made a RAID 0 array out of the 2 SSD's and not accidently selected one of your storage drives as well by accident. Or you could check in the Intel Matrix Storage software where it should hopefully say the 2 storage drives as 'Non-RAID Hard Drives'.

They BOTH show up during windows boot up as NON-RAID drives.

Yet, in windows only 1 drive appears. Anyone have any idea why?

maybe you need to assign a drive letter to it?

try disk management and see if it has a drive letter assigned
(was it a fresh install of windows 7 or a image restored?)

try another port / cable
