*****The Official Aliens Vs Predator 3*****

Steam is the way forward really, theres a reason its become so sucessful.

Cant fault it bar the fact you cant sell your games once your finished with them.

I think the ONLY reason it's been successful is because you no longer have to use a game disc which is what people have wanted for years.

I don't see what real advantage other than physical space saving, Steam provides.

Games are cheaper retail and you have something physical to keep as well.

Automatic updates too, that's a biggy for me. I don't get this need that people have for something physical. It's like something is of no worth unless they have it in their hands. If anything, having to change discs and having a useless box cluttering up my shelves is a negative.
Steam is the best thing that's happened to pc gaming in a long time.

Having something physical is becoming more and more irrelevant as games become more dependent on online authentication though. Look at the Dawn of War 2 lark where you have to be signed into GFWL and steam got get at half the game.

Hell, I have a physical Tabula Rasa box, doesn't mean I can play the game.

I still cuddle it every now and then though

Yes I concur - the only reason I buy physical is the sometimes huge differences in price. If steam offered AVP3 at £18 including skins woudl buy straight from there!

You can also buy and install a game straight away without getting off your arse, that counts for a lot in my book :)

If it's the difference between £30 Steam or £20 shops I know which I'd rather do. An extra £10 just so I can 'sit on my backside' is a total waste of cash IMO.

What's not to get about having the box and disc? At the end of the day Steam is essentially loaning you the games. If it goes pear shaped they give you a one off update to enable you to play them without Steam...what if you forget to back up, or will the back ups even work if Steam goes under? I don't really see DVD sized boxes as a major inconvenience to be honest.

And Steam games are worthless as you cannot sell them on once you are finished with them...

I've wasted more than a tenner on less worthwhile things. then again I'm not much of a saver - money's there to let me enjoy my life, and I'll squirt it out like so much processed waste if it'll make my life easier or more interesting. So if it's the difference between £30 on Steam and £20 in shops, I know what I'd rather do.

get from shop as steam are usually 2 days late with games and its not hard to go to shop

Selling pc games is pretty much a nono nowadays anyway with activation codes.
You're paying for the game, not the disc, discs are ten a penny, what difference does it make? You're not being loaned the game, you're paying for a licence to play it, same as you do when you buy it in the shop, whether the data is on your disc or your disc drive, makes no difference.
People talk about dvds as if they last forever, they don't, they have a shelf life of about 20 years. I'd put money on steam still being around in twenty years time.

Less worthwhile than sitting on your behind?

From the brief exchange of posts between us you sound lazy and wasteful, sorry but I see £10 pounds as a fair amount that could be put to better use. I certainly wouldn't pay a company money to give me more time to sit on my backside, it's quite mad when you sit back and think about it.

Seems to me like this is the exact market Valve are targeting, because they offer no better value over shops (with the exception of the odd offer). Because they sell the same product for more even though it should be less as they have nothing to distribute only bits and bytes, which is less expensive.

I like the convenience but the business model is just a rip off for the consumer.

So if Steam goes under your license to play that game does as well? What are you supposed to do if they cease business, you have no way to download the games that you have a license for and no disc to install it either...but that's ok you still have the license

I know DVD's cost nowt, that's nothing to do with what we are discussing though. My point is that having the physical means you always have that data. Top quality printed DVD's can last 100 years from what I have read into it, more than anyone could ever need really. There's a good chance Steam won't last as long.

Yeah, I've really been throwing cash away on overpriced steam games recently...

I was merely pointing out that the convenience outweighs the saving in some instances. You however, seem intent on using it as an excuse to attack fat lazy people, although god only knows why. Maybe you get beaten up by one regularly or something.

Excuse me? Attack? What on earth are you talking about? Did I mention anything about fat people? As for the ridiculous final sentence...grow up, what a stupid thing to say.

Good for you, you have spent little over the last month (plenty of offers on, I took advantage too) but that doesn't excuse the over exaggerated pricing of NEW titles.

Also my example does not apply to the cheap older games, obviously Overlord at £1.50 is going to be cheaper than even getting to the shops so in this instance it works very well. But this post is about a brand new game that they will expect top dollar for but plenty of people have already bought at a great pre-order price.

C'mon guys, lets not forget what this post is all about, the SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS, o wait, MMMMmmmm

Swiftly moving back to subject, lets all just agree those in favor of discs are right! lol

Anyone have any ideas for minimum specs to run aliens vs predator?

I was merely pointing out that getting so agitated over something that doesn't affect you in the slightest seems like classic displacement behaviour to me, seems like a logical jump to assume lazy people are oppressing you somehow.

I'll stop trolling now, sorry welsh :)

I'm not agitated in the slightest, just putting across an opinion.

I honestly don't know what the hell you are talking about as far as lazy people oppressing me is concerned, people can do what they like. It's your money waste it how you see fit, but I'd rather get off mine, get out in the fresh air, meet people face to face, get some excercise and save 10 quid.

Over and out.
