Tumble Dryers: how do you survive without one?

I have a tumble dryer that came with the house when I bought it. I've not used it once in the three years I've lived there. Waste of money if you ask me when a clothes horse and/or radiators do the job.

Just get a washer/dryer? I rarely ever use them as they take quite a while to get stuff properly dry, cost quite a lot to run and i never need clothes that quick that i cant leave them 48 hours to dry on an airer in another room, you dont need windows open either.

You're having a laugh tumber dryers. I read the title and thought you meant a washing machine. Ive never used one. Hang stuff up!

This and just leave by a source of heat, i.e. radiator. Saves on electrcity too. Furthermore, you don't get the "crusty" clothing, and the washing machine spins enough to make the clothes slightly damp so they pretty much dry over night. Even if the heating isn't on, the house is warm enough to let things dry naturally. IF the heating is on, then bonus. I don't see the need for a tumble drier really.

Just got my first tumble dryer. What a godsend! Stuff comes out much softer and fluffier but best of all, said stuff requires little or no ironing.

Clothes horse when it's raining.
Washing line when it's not.

Do own a tumble dryer but it's not used much, basically used to dry the sweat off my dads judo suits and heat the garage up a bit.

Weve not had one for years and don't really miss it either.

When we were having our new kitchen fitted we wanted every thing integrated (fridge, freezer dishwaher etc) and didn't have enough room for both a washing machine and a tumble dryer so ordered a washer/tumble but they delivered just a washing machine instead, a lot of discount later we decided to stick with the washing machine and replace it with a washer/tumble when it broke down ...problem is its a Bosch and doesn't look likely to break down any time soon :)

When I was a student, I'd buy new clothes instead of washing them, then at Christmas & Easter mum would be in for one nasty shock :D

Well my house gets damp pretty easily so hanging too much stuff up on radiators etc is not really great... Especially in winter. Hanging on a washing line takes too long... we have a tumble drier and to dry 6kg of clothes (which is a lot), it costs under 30p... That's the equivalent of 3 minutes minimum wage... 3 MINUTES!!!!! Why waste time, make the house damp and have clothes absorbing the radiator heat? (It takes heat to evaporate the water which you will only get back if the water causes damp)... Plus the tumble drier heats the house as efficiently as an electric heater, and provides distilled water for ironing

I use a mangle and keep 6 chinchillas that literally lick, lick, lick the moisture out of my clothes.

Tumble dryer tho very costly - you do 2 washes a day in a household with kids you are talking 50-60 quid a month... Silly money.

I use clothes horse + radiator - only ever use the Dryer in extreme panics or for warming up my Y fronts.
