I think the point is, 1 bottle of spirits a week is nothing to get excited about.
The problem is that this Government has now managed to convince the media and simple people that we are binge drinking if we have more than 3 pints in any given session. What used to be called "a night on the lash" or "a couple with the lads" is now called "binge drinking" and as such is morally unacceptable. Personally, I'd rather they focused on the under age drinkers rather than adults exercising their right to have a few.
Just another example of the fascist nanny state that has ruled us for the last 12 years. The health fascists have finished with the smokers, now it's time for the drinkers.
Interestingly though, neither will be made illegal. Wonder why... tax? cough *ahem* hypocrisy.
i dont think you guys understand.
IT IS AN AVERAGE PER ADULT.
that means take out all the people who dont drink. drink less often, etc. that means a lot of people will be drinking 2 - 3 bottles of spirits a week. remember it is against some religions to drink. pregnant women dont drink. if you add all these up then yes it is a problem.
im 24 years old and a student. i only drink about 12 bottles of spirits worth a year i would say. that means somebody else is drinking the other 34 bottles of spirits.
anybody who doesnt think having 2-3 beers "every" night isnt a problem is in denial. it is a problem all be it a small one.
a lot of people are binge drinking and it is a problem, especially in scotland, there are people murdered, knifed or assaulted every weekend in glasgow city centre at night when people are full of alcohol. if you dont think its a problem, why not speak to some of these people who have been assaulted or knifed, or speak to a police officer who deals with the problems created.
alcohol is a huge problem in scotland, you guys simply dont understand that these stats are an average, and a lot of people are drinking a full bottle of vodka every friday and saturday night, but then not drinking anything during the week.
my family owns shops, restaurants and a pub which all sell alcohol, i know first hand by the amount of times regulars come in and buy booze, how much of a problem it is.
all of the people saying that 1 bottle a week per adult is nothing need to grow up, if it is nothing then why is it 25% higher than england? all you english must drink like women. come on im sure you english can handle a lot more than 1 bottle per week, go out and show us how manly you are.
