195/50 R15 - What tyre?

I'm having big problems with finding 195/55/50 tyres for the MR2 - Don't want to go for T1-R's because of the reports of them wearing too fast.

Arrgh bloody stupid sizes.

Looks like I'll be going with the Hankook Ventus Prime K105 - Pretty good reviews (and have them on the rear of my car at the moment). Fully fitted for £300 at my local place in 195/55/15 front and 225/50/15 rear.

Yokohama Parada Spec 2, pretty cheap and a very good tyre.

I can't really comment on wear or noise as we have no interior and the car hardly gets used. My uncle who is a professional driver uses them on an old golf gti track car and said they were excellent in the wet.

Delivers parcels for royal mail does he? ;)

Yoko Paradas are the ultimate in cack in the damp/moist and only ever average in the wet. Just ask Darryn. :p Oh and they are soft as hell, cant see you getting 15k out of them.

oooh good in the wet?

my golf only has modest bhp but i remember once trying to keep up with a friend who had an integra R, coming off a roundabout, fast left hander in the wet. he was flat out, i was having to feather the throttle back in 2nd as once i got over 50mph it would spin up the inside front and the revs would flare

i didnt like them in the wet, you had to really stay on your toes

very good in the dry and lasted well though

I killed a front pair of Parada Spec 2s in about 6k I think it was, and that wasn't on track. I didn't find them terrible in the wet on the CTR but other people say they were.

I miss my Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas. They were great but don't seem aplenty in the smaller sizes. Didn't get chance to give them the longevity test mind you.

Got these sized 225/40/18 and they are pretty crap :p

Due to change soon after 8000 miles.

Test driver for Jaguar, lucky git. :)

I've got Kumho KU31s on the Golf and they are just superb, a fantastic tyre for the money and better than the T1Rs that were on it before. Apart from in the snow, they are worse than useless in snow.

Agreed! Mine last 5k at the front mostly completely worn on the inside and thats not racing or wheel spinning or hard driving! Side walls are good strength compared to T1-R's

Currently running Falken 912's on the front and they seem to be a good all round tyre and harder wearing.

Mine handled the snow just fine recently, maybe it's your driving :D

In all fairness it was probably more down to the car than the tyres. Light FWD hatchback sitting on the deck doesn't work to well with the snow.....

I use 195 50 15's on the gti6 and in the past Ive used 3 different tyres. Heres what ive found

Toyo T1R - good all rounder and contrary to what people say mine lasted well over a year. Grip in the dry and wet was Average.

Yoko Parada Spec 2's - unbelievable dry grip, took me round the Nurburgring flawlessly. The ware quicker than the T1R'S but still got almost a year out of them. Their biggest downfall is wet grip....they just dont, if its even slightly moist they understeer everywhere

(Current) Uniroyal Rainsport 2's - As good as the Parada's in the dry and a completely new level in the wet. You find yourself pushing it just to see how far it will grip in the wet, i havent found the limit yet. I got mine for £35 a corner off ebay.

recently got a full set of tyres on my Alfa 159, after 14k miles from new. Cost me £1000. Nice.
