Hi all,

im having a right load of trouble trying to set up a raid 0

i brought 2 samsung 1tb hdd today and im trying to set them up in raid 0 which i have managed to do well so my bios tells me but when i try to install windows it just gives me a boot from disk failure message :/ also do i need to use a floppy to install some raid drivers cus i just looked at my motherboard manual and thats what it says but i dont have a floppy drive :/

Im not sure if anyone will understand as im not sure how to explain but its driving me mad!

Hi chris,

What operating system you installing? Windows xp requires raid drivers Vista and windows 7 dont :)

And have you made a raid yet? in the raid configuation? Raid 0 Striped

stefan.

Make sure the raid hard drives are set as primary and other hard drives (if any) as secondary. Change boot order in bios to cd, then the raid hard drives.

Yea i have made the Raid 0 its says thats all fine

Installing Windows 7 Pro

I have an awfull feeling something is wrong with my DVD Drive yet it was fine before i removed my old hard drive and plugged in the two new ones about an hour ago.

But the DVD Drive is not showing in my bios

Well thats obvious maybe some one could shed some light on why all of a sudden my DVD Drive wouldnt be showing in the bios/not working when it was fine a few hours ago

Similar problem

This is a total stab in the dark but i had a similar problem and all i did was changed the sata port for the dvd drive. took it off the channel on which my hard drive resides...
Good luck...

and when i try to boot from my old hard drive it just blue screens now :( what is going on!
That's because you've changed the SATA controller mode to RAID which requires drivers that are not installed in the copy of XP on the old HDD. If you want to boot from that disk you need to change the SATA mode in the BIOS.

its windows 7 on the old hdd aswell

OK i put everything back to how it was before and all is working including the DVD so now i need to work out why when i plug in the two 1TB HDD's it stops detecting the dvd

On the motherboard i have 6 ports controlled by ICH10R and 4 controlled by Gigabyte which do you recommend i use for the raid??

I suggest you reset the bios and start again, either pull the bios battery out for 30sec or reset the jumpers. This is with the power off btw. And also unplug all HDDs. Then check the DVD cables are in right, both power and data and first see if you can get the DVD detected again.

I have a gigabyte board and i dont use the gigabyte ports..I put mine in sata ports 1 and 2 and my dvd is on sata port 3... i make sure that i have the correct boot process making sure the hard drives are there and away i go. control-i to go into the raid set up and thats it...

Hummm right this is just getting more and more confusing my dvd drive wont read my windows 7 disc even tho i used it to install it before and its a legit disc from bill gates himself so i then got my friends disc from him and it wont read that either yet everything els reads just fine
