my cousin is going to test it in his socket 775 if that don't work i'll try a more top end system if i can find someone local with one.

Except the card only has a six pin connector. I know because I have the very same card.

And its useless :( Had it for three months and it hard locks in any game (on various mobo/cpu/psu combinations) and OCUK refused to RMA it. Tried a ton of fixes, various drivers etc.

My advice would be to reset bios, if it still doesn't post then RMA it and get something else.

On what grounds do they refuse to RMA it?

If you believe it's a fault with the card then getting an RMA shouldn't be too difficult. You just have to know your rights.

i'll return it under item not fit for purpose as it clearly dosen't state anything about not working with certain cpu/mobo/ram combo's
thats if it dosen't work on my cousing comp

Its most likely the mobo. Best bet is to report it to mobo manufacturer to see if they can release a fixed bios.

I supect 1Gb cards simply dont fit into the memory map of these older boards and the same reason why 4gb memory doesnt work either (even with memory holes enabled +64bit win))

For a laugh I used that calculator to build a reasonable 4870 system (phenom x4, 2 hdd, dvd burner, the usual) - fully expecting the thing to recommend me a much bigger PSU than needed... and was pleasantly surprised.

It recommended 320w minimum :D

Course I wouldn't buy anything <400w myself, and normally I go for 500w for a gaming system. But for the average user, 450-550 is plenty.

700w should run most SLI setups and 1000w is just overkill for 95% of everyone.

ha ha ha i tried the same with my spec in my sig + the fans/fan controller i've got aswell.

recomended a 1046w PSU

i'm only on a 650w. it canne take the power captain :D

Well as far as psu's go, 450w is more than enough. The rig in my siggy along with a pair of Sata ll hdd's, Sata dvdrw, 5x fans and a Zalman ZM-MFC2 multifunction controller only draws a max of 284w at the wall and even then that is only when running Fur stability test and Linx together.

Unless of course there is a fault with the psu's pci-e line. Have you tried a 2x molex to pci-e adapter like the one that came with the card?

i used the above site and bought a seasonic 650w gold psu and my system for a i5 which i am busy building with a 5770 card with 2 hd and a cdrom and 10 usb devices and 5 fans came to somthing like 400w to 450w max

Ok, very simple thingy but have you tried this:

Stick the monitor cable to the other DVI port? :)
