Moral of the story - Always HPI check your new purchase!

Are you 100% sure about that?
"Stolen recovered" as far as being recorded on the database goes means the insurers treated it as a total loss.

All of the categories ultimately mean that the vehicle was subject to a total loss payout by an insurance company.

That makes no sense? The insurance company haven't had to pay out anything so how can they list a claim, let alone a write off? I'm with Fox on this one, but I'd be interested to see what the insurance gurus say.

To record the risk, presumably.

Gutted TomO ;/

HPI got back to me at the end of last week. Thankfully, its an error on their behalf and has now been removed from the records.

Great news for me! however, unfortunately the previous purchaser is put off the car still it seems, so will need to back up for sale.

So HPI got their knickers in a twist and effectively screwed up your sale. Nice.

Glad to here that they've eventually found the mistake though. Must be a relief for you even if the existing sale fell through!

How absolutely rubbish - did they explain why it happened?

That does indeed suck! So was it the provider of the information from the HPI database, eg; The AA or the database itself?

I didn't really care! After they said it had been removed I was happy enough. Obviously I would have preferred if they hadn't of done the cockup in the first place, but at that point I was just relieved I hadn't lost £5k+!!

So glad for you, must be a huge relief to not be kicking yourself every five minutes! Buyer is probably cursing not having taken it off you for a few grand less when he had the chance!

Christ, that's shocking on their part!

Just as bad as the DVLA losing peoples driving licence records

doh ! still at least you've not lost 10 grand or whatever it would have dropped by.

Bet you'd much rather put it back on the market than loose that much money.

My advice.

Buyer beware. Dig out the old HPI cert, show that and pull the same trick as the bloke you bought it off.

If they dont check or ask a direct question, their problem.

Just dont lie if he asks you.

My shoes...
It would be the above I'm afraid.
Keep Shtum unless asked directly.

Did you do a 2nd HPI check on it just to confirm it has been removed. Or did HPI send you a replacement/new report to prove their records have been ammended? I wouldnt take their word for it, Id want to see written evidence.
