Nick Griffin on Haiti

I did wonder myself where the government magiced up that 20mil from.

People saying it is all proportionate, but i bet Haiti wouldn't donte a single PENNY to us if we even have a major catastrophe.

Of course not, but its an ego stroke for Western countries.

We should cut aid all together, not least haiti.

Let people in that part of the world deal with it I'm afraid imo.

Haiti Humanitarian Relief - £0.33
MP Expenses - £1.44
Laptops for Children - £4.91
ID Cards - £86.72
Olympics - £152.18
Aborted NHS Computer System - £196.36
The equivalent per person spent.

Helping those in need is not a political decision, so Nick Griffin's points are null and void. The UK may be in economic difficultly, but regardless most of us are in a position to donate some money as our standard of living is very high.

Griffin appeals to the uneducated.
Definitely.

Haiti was a complete mess before this anyway. There was a 7000 man UN army there just to keep law and order, and that was before this.

40% of the countries GDP is foreign aid, it is badly affected by corruption, and now the entire place has been flattened by an earthquake.

I can't see how the country can continue existing to be honest.

No, we all pay our taxes to the same place.

You're kicking up a fuss because the government chose to give some away in aid, whereas I'm not. That's the difference.

I've explained to you that the money is trivial and you wouldn't notice it anyway, but you're still screaming like an hysterical child. You're just a selfish, nasty person and it's evident.

He's hardly screaming like an hysterical child, just offering up a different point of view to yours. If anyone is coming across as nasty in this thread it's you!!

I don't think he's disputing that people are in a mind of their own if they want to donate their money to haiti, he's on about money out of the public purse, which is a different kettle of fish.

I'm firmly on the 'how can we give so much money away when we struggle to look after ourselves?' camp here. It's a wonderful and noble cause, but one cannot help but ponder at the fact we have been told to tighten our belts, grit our teeth and just get on with it - then watch our tax go in the millions towards Haiti. Why isn't the government so ready to use the same amount to help its own people?

One such example would be the lack of equipment for the military - it's often said that millions are needed to be spent on modernizing communications on the field, yet soldiers are stuck with 30-year old technology for their radios that often fail to work in the most dire and critical of situations.

All I'm saying is that for the longest time, the government has been slashing funding and threatening further cuts on almost every aspect of society - and then it gives tens of millions away in aid. The money weren't permitted to be used to help the nation, but it's going elsewhere. Noble cause or not, it's not something I particularly agree with.

What about all the innocent people? We supposed to just let hundreds die when we have the means to do something about it? We can't just give up on them because it's difficult.

Well that's the decision of the elected government. They decided for us, such is the nature of having a government. You can't please everyone, and the vast majority of people in this country would support the decision. That's democracy, you had your say, it's a shame you don't agree, but then there's lots of issues on which I disagree with the government too. Sure, I complain about some, but is the issue being argued here whether the government was right to do it or whether we all personally agree to do it or not? In this country, if the government is working properly, they should go hand in hand, though inevitably some will not agree.

What I'm saying is, basically, deal with it. Vote for a party that doesn't support foreign aid in the next election.

People ask "What's wrong with our country" etc ...... some of the replies in this thread indicate what is ******* wrong! .... selfish, I'm alright Jack, Look after No 1 ****s!

I'm sickened by total lack of humanity; and comparing being a little hard up or snow not being cleared etc to what is going on in Haiti is totally un ******* believable.

Pretty much.

I know like p4radox said in an ideal world you should be able debate each argument on its own merits but that man really doesn't deserve the time of day.

Seen the name Nick Griffin, not thought about anything else but the band wagon of condemnation? right?

I'm not defending the man as a person, Yes he's an asswipe but he's made a good point. We're all struggling ourselves yet the public tax money in its millions gets sent off. If you want to donate personally that's fine, it's your choice.

Couldn't of put it better myself.
