Air France to charge obese passengers for two seats

Sorry havn't read the rest of the thread yet... so might already be there but...

The missus and I were discussing this while waiting to fly this summer. We first thought that we both ought to have a weight limit per ticket. It would mean as neither of us are overweight that we could take a higher baggage limit than those that were, and it would start providing definite negatives for people who have weight issues.

However on the first day of our nice hot holiday I completely changed my mind. If you have a 119kg person with a 120kg ticket... do you REALLY want to see them dressed in only 1kg of clothes? Obese people in thongs would be everywhere. Thin silk tops that were semi transparent... No thanks!

The only sure fire way of solving this issue is to make fat people walk. Would mean we save on flights, have a healthier population. Shoe sales would far replace the economic downturn from planes. It is the only sensible solution.

My plan may have been fueled largely by the copious ammounts of drink consumed on an all exclusive holiday. This does not make it wrong.

When the bay actually takes up a seat?

Do babies fly for free or do they have to have a ticket/fee?

they fly free under 2 yrs old

re the extra seat I think they shoudl as it as as unpleasant to have a baby next to you as it is to have a lardy

the baby should also count towards the parents bagage allowance :p

Unpleasantness doens't cost more ship, if you sat next to a smelly white supremacist who continually spouted his scat stories to you it would be unpleasant but he wouldn't cost any more to fly so wouldn't be charged more.

This is either about weight which would apply to everyone regardless of if they spill over the seat or not.

Or

It';s on volume, where one person spilling over the seat actually makes it impossible for someone to get into the next seat/dangerous in an emergency.

Yes the baby should count towards their weight allowance if it was introduced.

people should pay for their own kids education, those without kids shouldn't pay

you pay for your own healthcare

you sort your own pension

Having a society that looks after its at a basic level people benefits you as well. Your fellow citizens health and education levels effect you greatly.

of course bigger people which take up more room should pay more.
its no discrimination i think.
Never sat in a bus and a very obese person sat next to you so you kind of get squished not very comfortable same goes for a plane i have seen obese people on there.

I'm not saying i hate obese people.
charge per space (volume) you take up and not weight :o

p.s. my 1st post here hi all :p

sure it does but I am just lowering myself to the same level as the other intolerant types :)

In certain circumstances (like education) the subsidy is already built in to our taxation system. In other cases it would make more sense for pricing to be staggered and then the government wouldn't consider things like taxing high fat foods...

I wonder what it would do to the obesity statistics if obese people knew that their annual beer pilgrimage to Majorca was going to cost them more?
