In certain circumstances (like education) the subsidy is already built in to our taxation system.

Planes have solid arm rests. You can't spill onto another seat. Either you fit or you don't.

yes but I would imagine that someone wouldn't be allowed to pull the armrest up between you and them just because they don't fit in the seat

and how many people have them up, as long as you fit with the armrests down. You do not spill onto someone elses seat. Most of it is preconceived prejudice rather than actual fact of making people s journeys miserable.

Why?

It costs more in fuel to move a heavier person.

By that logic weight limits on luggage are unfair.

My recent trip back from England to the States, guy next to me asked for a 'seat belt extender' - was not pleasant sharing a seat with someone that barely fit into it in the first place, especially for 8hrs.
I think this is a good thing, might motivate some people into getting healthy.

As I said a few posts back the 100kg was just an example, best not to take it as gospel.

Maybe another way would be to charge a flat fee for a seat, say £60 for flight x, then charge a set price per kg for weight (this includes person and baggage).

One problem with this is people might be tempted to buy up seats around them...

Paying for a fat persons extra space and being inconvenienced by their girth and appearance does not help society as a whole, air travel is not a basic human right.

I said if they need 2 seats because they inconvenience people then they should pay for 2 if you read back, just as folks with babies that inconvenience others should pay for an extra seat

Probably not. But then life isnt fair!

Said person doesnt have to fly, but if they want to then they pay more.

No he was. He managed to squeeze is waist into the seat, but his upper body spilled onto my side. He was uncomfortable, it was obvious, so his constant shifting/twisting (bumping into me on my side) and sighing got to my nerves. Plus his over-weight heavy breathing
This guy was not overweight, he was obese. Sad really.
So yes I do think it affected my flight.
